Two scholarships are available to support eligible VATE members to access the State Conference by helping to remove financial barriers to attendance.

❤️ The Teacher Inclusion Scholarships are supported by the generosity of VATE members and friends who have donated payment for work undertaken in 2025 or 2026.

❤️ Each scholarship is valued at up to $1000 and can be used toward registration costs, travel, and accommodation expenses associated with attending the State Conference.

❤️ With a focus on equity and inclusion, VATE will prioritise applicants who work with students from disadvantaged or low SES backgrounds and/or in rural and regional areas.

🤩 A new edition of MIDDLE GROUND awaits! 'Trim, taut, and terrific: Writing micro fiction with A Story in Miniature' has been written by VATE's own Education Officer and judge of our annual short story writing competition, Emma Jenkins!

This lesson sequence explores how teachers can use the four winning entries from the 2025 A Story in Miniature writing competition to teach:
🥦 narrative structure
🥦 world-building and genre writing
🥦 characterisation
🥦 and the role of precise language choices...

With plenty of supportive low stakes writing opportunities for the young writers in your classroom throughout.
