In Week Three, Amaroo PS proudly celebrated the 2026 NAIDOC theme, 50 Years of Deadly, acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, achievements and contributions.
Throughout the week, our students enjoyed a range of meaningful experiences, including learning about Aboriginal history, creating deadly displays, learning to weave, listening to traditional stories, playing traditional Indigenous games during instructional play and enjoying a special cultural lunch.
We were privileged to have Mr Stephen Michael open our NAIDOC Week celebrations on Monday 3rd August. Stephen shared his story and encouraged our students to value education, work hard, believe in themselves and support others. Stephen, youโre a very humble man โ which was evident during 'question time' when one of our younger students asked if you were any good at football, and your simple response was, โYeah, I wasnโt too bad.โ ๐โค๏ธ๐คฉ
Our cultural lunch on Friday was made even more special with Mr Troy Bennell, who joined us to play the didgeridoo and share the beautiful sounds of Aboriginal culture & his stories with our school community. Thank you Stephen & Troy for taking the time to visit our school and share your wisdom with our students.
Our Friday afternoon Closing Ceremony provided a wonderful opportunity to come together, reflect on the weekโs learning and formally conclude our celebrations.
A heartfelt thank you to our AIEO Priscilla Morrison and staff members Emily Trewhitt, Keryn McGregor, Rhiahn Povee, Jade McCormick, Kerrie Tatt and Caitlyn Jose for the time, care and effort they put into making NAIDOC Week such a valuable experience for our students.
An extended thank you to Priscilla, who went above and beyond in planning and facilitating engaging NAIDOC Week activities, teaching staff and students the art of weaving and preparing the delicious food for our cultural lunch. We truly appreciate everything you did to elevate the celebration!
It was a wonderful week of learning, sharing, celebrating and connecting with culture.
