Children who are resilient can ‘bounce back’ from challenging situations and setbacks and can deal with them in a positive way – but how can we help our children develop resilience?
• Plenty of play and opportunities to develop life skills and self mastery.
• Support your child but try not to fix or solve the problem for them.
• Avoid preventing a problem from arising. Let your child experience small challenges so they will be more equipped for bigger ones.
• Help your child identify and manage their emotions including building their self-compassion.
• Encourage them to try again and praise them for their effort.
• Celebrate the things that are going well and connect your child with supportive role models.
• Most importantly, having a strong relationship with you and other main caregivers is the foundation of your child’s resilience.

This Thursday is National Sorry Day, and on Friday 27th May we begin National Reconciliation Week. Celebrating National Reconciliation Week is a way of building community understanding and pride in reconciliation.

National Reconciliation Week is held from 27 May to 3 June each year, and when all Australians can:

•reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements
•explore how we can join the national reconciliation journey.

This year’s theme is ‘Be Brave, Make Change.’ This year we are asking everyone to make change beginning with brave actions in their daily lives – where they live, work, play and socialise.

Throughout the week we will be setting up experiences throughout our learning environment for the children to continue exploring and learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

Did you know CPCK has their own Reconciliation Action Plan? This is our formal statement of our commitment to reconciliation, and can be viewed here - https://www.cpck.com.au/curriculum/rap/

On Tuesday June 14th and Thursday June 16th; we will have a visit from Taronga Zoo. Their incursion is titled "Animals of the Dreaming" and it is an inspiring program combining two fascinating aspects of unique Australia – native animals and the Dreamtime. This program is delivered by Brewarrina Elder, Colin Hardy OAM and supported by Indigenous Taronga zoo staff.
