Colour Matching and Rainbow Paper Craft

Children explored matching colours and creating a rainbow paper craft. Through this activity, they developed their colour recognition, sorting skills, and visual discrimination. The craft also encouraged creativity, fine motor development, and hand–eye coordination as children arranged and glued the coloured paper to form a rainbow. This hands-on experience supported both cognitive and artistic learning in a playful way.

ABC Colour Dot Match Fun with Dot Markers

Learning About Australia

Children were actively engaged in learning about Australia through a range of hands-on and intentional activities. Using printable map sheets, children explored Australia’s map by building and matching states, while bottle tops were used to support fine motor skills and problem-solving as they placed and matched pieces.
Children were also introduced to the three Australian flags – the Australian, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander flags. Educators discussed the colours and symbols, supporting children’s understanding of meaning and cultural awareness. Children further explored the flags through a number puzzle, strengthening numeracy and visual recognition skills. Their learning was extended through creative expression as children participated in hand painting to create the flags, allowing them to explore colours, textures, and sensory experiences while reinforcing their learning in a fun and meaningful way.

Today, children joyfully celebrated International Kite Flying Day through a range of engaging, hands-on activities. They began with a sticky kite craft, carefully placing colourful paper pieces to decorate their kites, supporting creativity and fine motor skills. Children then explored kite colour-matching using pegs, clipping the correct coloured pegs onto matching kites, which strengthened their colour recognition and hand–eye coordination.
Later, children extended their early maths skills through kite counting with beads, confidently counting, sorting, and matching colours. Children were engaged in two crystal-growing experiments using borax with pipe cleaners and Epsom salt. With careful risk management, the educator led the activity by ensuring safety procedures were followed and provided close supervision, allowing children to participate confidently in a safe and controlled process. Throughout the experiment, children showed curiosity, made observations, and discussed changes. Unfortunately, the Epsom salt experiment did not work as expected; however, this became a valuable learning opportunity to talk about experimenting, trying again, and understanding that not all experiments have the same outcomes. By the end of the day, children were excited to see crystals forming on the pipe cleaners in the borax experiment and proudly took them home to show their parents, building a strong sense of achievement and interest in science exploration.

During the stitching activity using recycled cardboard and colourful yarn, children developed fine motor strength, hand–eye coordination, and bilateral coordination as they threaded the yarn through the holes. The activity supported problem-solving and concentration while encouraging creativity through colour choice and design. Using recycled materials also promoted an understanding of sustainability and resourcefulness, supporting children’s awareness of caring for the environment.
