In 1888, the Sisters of Mercy arrived in Colac and, in the following year, opened a school in buildings erected in Calvert Street. Joseph’s College, which provided secondary education from Years seven to twelve for girls and boys until 1967. In February 1967, at the request of the local parishes, the Christian Brothers began Trinity College, a secondary school for boys from Years 7 to 10. It was s

ituated in Pound Road at a site that had been purchased in several transactions from 1957 onwards, partly by Monsignor James Gleeson, who had strongly sought the coming of the Brothers. Joseph’s College on the Calvert Street site led to the transfer of its secondary component to a new building on the Pound Road site in 1976. The transfer was completed while Father Coley McKenzie was parish priest. At the request of the new parish priest of Colac, Father John Martin, the Sisters of Mercy and the Christian Brothers agreed to the amalgamation of the two Colleges. This began in 1979 for a three-year trial period and was confirmed as a permanent arrangement in 1982. Joseph’s-Trinity College and both of the original crests and sets of colours were maintained. From 1983 onwards, the single title “Trinity College” came into official use and a new crest was adopted which was based on the original St. Joseph’s crest. The new set of colours of red and blue, embodied one from each of the previous combinations of red and black (Trinity College) and blue and gold (St. Joseph’s). Trinity College Colac is committed to the safety, wellbeing and protection of all children and young people in our care.

Our VET Agriculture students recently visited Nelson’s farm in Cressy to assist with lamb marking as part of their ‘Marking Livestock’ unit. Swapping their school uniforms for work clothes, students gained hands-on experience putting their learning into practice and developing valuable practical skills in livestock management. A massive thank you to Nick Nelson for welcoming our students and providing this valuable learning opportunity.
