This week is National Science Week, a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all things science! In STEM, we have recently been exploring solids, liquids and gases, learning about their different properties and how particles move and interact with one another.

To celebrate Science Week, we’re also taking a look back at some of the cool experiments and hands-on activities we have completed throughout the year. From testing, creating and investigating to making some exciting discoveries, there has been plenty of science in action! 🔬🧪✨

STEM – The Science of Push and Pull

In STEM, our Grade 3/4 students have been exploring the science behind pushes and pulls. As part of their learning, students were challenged to design and build a car that could travel across the stadium without being pushed or controlled by a person.
We explored different ways to propel our cars forward, including using blown-up balloons, wound-up elastic bands and other creative ideas. Students had to think carefully about how pushes and pulls could be used to make their cars move, while also testing and improving their designs along the way.
Last Friday at assembly, we showcased our learning to the school with a good old-fashioned car race! Students competed across three categories: Fastest Car, Most Appealing Design and Farthest Travelled.
It was fantastic to see the creativity, problem-solving and persistence on display, with plenty of excitement and some very competitive racing!

Today we recognised Australian Principal’s Day!
It was a chance for us to celebrate and thank the person who works so hard to make our school a wonderful place to learn 📚

Our school had a top secret mission today, to dress in the colours of Mr Pickett’s favourite soccer and football teams, Essendon and Arsenal, without spilling the beans! ⚫️🔴⚪️ (Also… It’s ok Mr Pickett, we would never judge you on your team choices!)

Some of our student councillers asked other students why they think Mr Pickett deserves to be recognised, and these answers were combined into our first ever ‘Principal of the Year’ award. 🥇

The award read:

“It has been great to see Mr Pickett consistently going above and beyond for our school community. Whether he's supporting school events, helping students and staff whenever needed, retrieving the many balls from over the fence, or taking the time to visit classrooms and connect with students, his kindness and dedication never go unnoticed. Thank you for always supporting our students, encouraging our student leaders, and making our school a better place every day. Keep up the fantastic work, Mr Pickett!”

Thank you for everything, Mr Pickett 🎉

What a great day today for our ‘keen’ grade 3/4 footballers. Players participated in 6 games against teams from the Colac division in ‘fun’ games of AFL 9s.

No scores were recorded other than in the Colac Green versus Colac White match of the day. In the end the Whites won 3 goals 6 to 1 goal 3, resulting in Mr T sending the Greens for a run as a consequence for losing. Players did so with a smile on their faces!

It was great to see all students gaining in confidence as the day wore on.

Well done to all players who represented our school and showed some great sportsmanship and a willingness to compete to the very end! 🏈

Last week in Art students learnt about NAIDOC Week and celebrating the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander people.
Students used paint pens to create original designs on eucalyptus leaves, inspired by the beauty of nature and the importance of caring for a country. Over the coming weeks, these leaves will be bought together to create a whole-school wreath that will accompany the Art Room’s Acknowledgement of Country, celebrating our shared respect for the Traditional Custodians of land on which we learn and create.
