City of Clouds by Kiah Thomas ☁️

When a power hungry king curses the kingdom of Edgemere after stealing a piece of an ancient volcanic glacier, the sun stops shining, the castle doors are locked tight, and the city is plunged beneath a permanent cloudy sky!

Thea and Jack are best friends living under the gloom, so when Jack is imprisoned inside the castle, Thea knows that she needs to save him.

Her only hope is to leave Edgemere and return the stolen piece of glacier to save Jack and break the curse.

With unlikely allies, secrets, mysteries and twists along the way, this is a fabulous middle grade journey novel within an interesting and exciting fantasy world. We really enjoyed this one!

A very big thank you to HarperCollins Children's Books for this sweet package! ☁️ Kiah Thomas

What Jack Brought Back by Jonathan Bentley 🍃

“I threw a stick for Jack. But What did Jack bring back?”

Poor Jack seems to bring back just about everything except the stick he originally runs off to fetch, resulting in a wild collection of unexpected friends!

This book is a super fun read for little ones, with its catchy rhyme, repetitive structure and silly twists that send predictability out the window.

Thank you to Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing and Little Hare Books for our copy. Jonathan Bentley

Yeah, Bear! By John Corrie 🐻

Yeah, this is beary good read!

With homophones, opposites and a whole bunch of bear related rhyming goodness, this one is clever in its simplicity.

The illustrations are a highlight, with each bear bursting with personality and the minimal colour palette helping each page to pop!

And the endpapers actually took us ages to move past, with my five year old needing to study every single bear before we could even get started on the story! 😍😂

A big thank you to HarperCollins Children's Books for our copy. Yeah, Bear! has been on repeat in our house! John Corrie

A Hug For Punch by Caroline L. Perry and Anoosha Syed 🐵

Punch is the little monkey with the stuffie that stole the world’s hearts and now, he has his very own picture book!

A Hug for Punch tells the true story of a little macaque from Ichikawa Zoo in Japan whose mother was unable to care for him as a baby, leaving the zookeepers to step in and raise him.

Punch needed a safe way to build his strength and improve his grip, so the keepers gave him a soft, cuddly toy.

He quickly became enamoured with his new stuffie and took it everywhere with him, much to the delight of zoo visitors and news outlets around the world.

While Punch’s story doesn’t have the happiest beginning, it’s lovely to know that he has since found his place among the other monkeys at the zoo.

The end of the book includes further information about Punch, along with some interesting facts about macaques in general.

We were so invested in Punch’s story, so we love having this sweet picture book to revisit his journey.

The Outback Stars by Ryan Alderman and Katherine Appleby 🌟

“The Outback Stars were the team the fans had come to see, they really were a treat to watch, no one would disagree.”

It was the day of the Country Shield footy game, a match for only the toughest teams in the league. But there was one player in particular who was bigger, rougher, and tougher than all the rest.

As he charged onto the field, he quickly evened the score against the Outback Stars, giving them plenty to worry about.

But with a clever plan from the Stars, they might still have a fighting chance!

Football fans will enjoy this fun footy story with an entertaining animal twist. With positions listed, attacks made, and plenty of action on the field, this is an exciting rhyming read for fans of the game!

Thank you to Ryan Alderman for our copy.

The Little Bird That Fell ~ A Penguin Bloom Story by Bradley Trevor Greive and Gabriel Evans 🐦‍⬛

The true story that captured the world now has this beautiful picture book adaptation that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

“We all fall. We all hurt. But this is not the end.”

Penguin is an Australian magpie, and this is her story, told from her perspective.

After a terrible storm knocked her from her nest, Penguin was hurt, scared and alone until a human named Sam found her and took her home to care for her.

Sam was a surfer, but after an injury left her in a wheelchair, she became scared of the water and was unable to surf.

Before long, Sam and Penguin were doing everything together, forming an incredible bond that would change both of their lives. They both worked hard to get back to the things they love, Sam to the ocean and Penguin to the sky.

The illustrations are gorgeous, capturing the movement, emotion and wonder of Sam and Penguin’s incredible story.

Their journey is one of courage, determination and perseverance, showing what can be achieved with a special friend by your side.
