And think outside the box: for eg, there’s a particularly cool apprenticeship as part of Ergon's Cairns Mobility Crew. The successful candidate will complete the same world-class training as our regular apprentice lineys, but will also get to travel around the state, boost their earnings (hellooo, 37% loading for a 9 on/5 off roster!), and be part of a crack team that operates not just in FNQ, but goes wherever they’re needed for disaster response.

Discover the hidden life of New South Wales’ estuaries at our next Marine Discovery Series (MDS) Lecture on 4 June at 6 pm. Using cutting-edge environmental DNA techniques, researchers detected thousands of species across the state. This talk explores what’s living in our waterways, why it matters, and how this knowledge can help manage and protect estuaries for the future. No need to book and entry is free.

Day 2 Newcastle and Sydney Universities Excursion

We had a busy day with a visit to the University of Sydney in the morning where we were able to explore the beautiful traditional buildings, take a look at the engineering, science and health science faculties. A huge thank you to the regional outreach and access teams for putting a great visit together for us!

The afternoon we had a visit to Macquarie University and were treated to a great session from the incredible Sally Hurst. Checking out some on campus accomodation was a highlight along with spending some time with student ambassadors who went to regional high schools. A huge thank you to the future students team!!

Day 1 - 2026 Newcastle and Sydney Universities Excursion!

We had a fantastic day visiting The University of Newcastle, students received ALL the info on uni life, admissions and pathways, scholarships and accomodation.

An added bonus was bumping into one of our BDC Alumni students - Reynold!!
