In 2026, the Children’s Book Council of Australia proudly marks the 80th year of the Book of the Year Awards. Since 1946, these awards have recognised the incredible talent and imagination that fuel the books our young readers cherish, and the creators who continue to shape our understanding of childhood, curiosity and compassion through story.

We encourage all children to come dressed as their favourite book character.

Science Week 2026
The school theme for National Science Week in 2026 is Seeds of Science: nurturing science for all.

This theme invites students across Australia to explore the power of curiosity, inquiry and shared learning in growing scientific understanding. Just as seeds need the right conditions to grow, knowledge flourishes when it is nurtured, shared and applied to real-world and authentic challenges across all the scientific disciplines.

This Thursday 6th August, join thousands of Australians wearing denim and raising funds for life-saving medical research.

1 in 20 kids faces a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer and cystic fibrosis. By wearing your jeans and fundraising, you’ll help find treatments and cures for kids who need them most.

This year’s KAB Week theme is “Beautiful Spaces – Happy places!” – where we delve into how time enjoying nature and clean environments improves your physical and mental wellbeing! We will discuss how litter and clutter affects stress, anxiety and mental clarity; why getting kids off screens and into nature matters for development; why clean shared spaces like beaches and parks improve community wellbeing; and why walking, grounding and swimming in nature improves your physical health.
