Brad and Jenny Daymond have the auspicious title of the longest serving parents of Bishop Druitt College

Brad and Jenny are the parents of 4 children who have all been schooled at Bishop Druitt College. Their firstborn, Blake commenced his BDC journey in 2000 until leaving at the end of year 10 in 2010. He is currently pursuing a career in music on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Imogen completed Year 12 in 2022. She started working at BDC in August of 2024 as a casual teacher’s aide for K-12. Since last year she has taken on a part-time role in the Secondary LSC while she studies for her Bachelor of Education/Secondary. Liam completed his HSC in 2024 and is currently studying Economics at Sydney University.

Their youngest child, Boz is in Year 5. So if you do the calculations, Brad and Jenny will have had at least 1 child at BDC as a student for 34 consecutive years, if Boz continues to complete his HSC at the college in 2033. What an achievement!
Jenny Daymond has been employed at BDC since 2020 working with enrollments. Her husband Brad, a well-known Coffs Harbour identity, is currently the General Manger of the Coastal and Golf Resorts Group.
The children’s enrollments are as follows:-

Blake - Enrolled at BDC in 2000: Kindergarten to Year 10 in 2010
Imogen - Enrolled at BDC in 2012: Year 2 to Year 12 in 2022.
Liam - Enrolled at BDC 2012: Kindergarten to Year 12 in 2024
Boz - Enrolled at BDC in 2022: Year 1- currently in Year 5 2026

The Daymond family has a long, continued history and legacy at the college.
We value and thank them for their long-time support and commitment to our community.

N.B. It would be remiss of me not to give credit to Scott Rodham former Alumni Officer and Archivist who wrote the original version of this story. Thanks Scott.

A BDC Valentine's Day love story special - Brooke and Angus

Brooke Parker (HSC 2021) and Angus Longworth-Browne (HSC 2020) started dating in July 2020 when she was in Year 11 and he was in Year 12. Brooke would go to 'Study Spectacular' (a form of tutoring provided by Year 12 student leaders in the Library) so that she would have an excuse to talk to Angus. She had no interest in maths but did end up coming first in Standard Mathematics that year, so it must have helped. Both diligent and talented students they each received an ATAR of over 95.

In 2021, Angus moved to Sydney to study a Bachelor of Cyber Security at Macquarie University, later transferring to a Bachelor of Information Technology. Brooke followed the year after to study a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and a Bachelor of Arts. Both got into Macquarie through the Leaders and Achievers Early Entry Program.

Brooke and Angus excelled in their university journey, coming first in some subjects and working as high school tutors. Angus also worked as a university tutor in the Computing Department teaching 1st - 3rd year classes. They were engaged in late 2023 in Coffs Harbour and married at the Ulong Chapel in late 2024.

Angus began working at Amazon Web Services in December 2024. He works as a Software Development Engineer creating software to help aid other developers at Amazon. Brooke completed an 11 week teaching practicum at Castle Hill High School in 2025 and will begin employment there in 2026 as an English teacher. This is a large secondary school with over 2000 students.

Brooke and Angus live in a house in Baulkham Hills in a house with a backyard for their newly aquired sweet gentle rescue greyhound named Bubbles. They both have fond memories of their time at Bishop Druitt College and we wish them all the best for their future.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Bishop Druitt College alumnus Evangelene Rushforth, who was named Apprentice of the Year at the 2025 Australian Training Awards recently.

Evangelene completed her Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade while employed by GTNT Group and hosted to South32 GEMCO on Groote Eylandt. After being crowned NT Apprentice of the Year earlier this year, she went on to represent the Territory at the national awards — and took home the top honour.

In her acceptance speech, Evangelene spoke powerfully about the impact of vocational education and training, sharing how finding a hands-on career gave her direction, purpose, and a future she loves.

Her journey — from university study to a trade apprenticeship, remote work on Groote Eylandt, leadership in safety, and advocacy for women in trades — is an inspiring example of where passion, resilience, and the right pathway can lead.

Congratulations, Evangelene. Your achievements reflect the strength of VET pathways and the incredible futures they can create. 💙

The Depth of History in HSIE

Trying not to make this new Alumni gig all about me but in part this one is, all about me. Mick Klipin has been teaching at Bishop Druitt College since 1998 and Drew Kadwell and myself, Barb Kiemski both joined the college in 2000. This makes for 80 years combined of us working at BDC (yikes!) and what’s more for the past few years, the three of us all share a corner in the HSIE Faculty staff room, where our desks are situated.
There have of course been many changes to our roles over the years, for a long time Mick Klipin in his role as Senior Year Coordinator and Drew Kadwell as Year Coordinator spent years stationed at other offices. Regardless with each of us being either in pastoral or Head of Faculty roles, we have always worked side by side in some capacity and shared important milestones and parts of our and our families’ lives.
We are pretty sure that this is quite a unique situation and ever since we have been reunited in the same staff room, there have been nostalgic conversations a plenty. So many shared experiences of students and colleagues along with challenges, changes and cause for celebration.
It would be remiss of me not to mention another honorary member of long serving BDC staff and a member of the HSIE Department, Craig Lang. A well-respected colleague and friend who joined the college in 2007. He also shares the hallowed ‘mature corner’ (in age not mentality I assure you) of the staff room. Adding ‘Clanger” into the mix, ups our combined years to 99! Some scary and remarkable statistics.
How many more years of service will each of us chalk up?? Only time will tell..

BDC Alumni News: Jeb Freeman | Bishop Druitt College 20/11/2025

Recently BDC Alumni, Jeb Freeman, spoke with our Years 10 and 11 students about the importance of mental health and staying connected.

Jeb is currently rowing 60km every day throughout November at venues across the Coffs Coast to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health as part of Movember. We’re incredibly proud of the commitment he’s showing and the message he’s spreading in our community.
