**From Puzzle Solving to Puzzle Creating**

Our new puzzles sparked an idea — why not create our own?

The children designed their own puzzles using paddle pop sticks, pencils, black pens and watercolours, with their creations inspired by our current bird project.

This simple experience supported important school readiness skills — concentration, problem-solving, fine-motor control, persistence, following steps, creativity and the ability to plan and represent an idea.

These are the skills that help children approach school with confidence, independence and a readiness to learn.

Following children’s interests and intentionally extending their learning is how we build the foundations for successful learners.

This weekend, our Coffs Harbour & Armidale teams came together for a weekend of growth, learning and reflection.

Our Lead Educators and Emerging Leaders spent the day diving deeper into their own why and, just as importantly, the why behind Wholechild.

Led by our Wholechild Leaders, the day was an opportunity to support, celebrate and invest in the people who help shape our teams and the experiences of the children every day.

We couldn’t be prouder of the way our leaders showed up — open-minded, reflective, curious and genuinely committed to growing themselves.

Because leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about being willing to learn, reflect, have the hard conversations, support others and keep moving forward.

At wholechild we believe when our leaders grow, our children, teams and communities grow with them.

By changing how we think about boredom, we can take the pressure off solving our kids' problems. And focus on what matters most: helping them grow up confident and capable.

Here’s 3 ideas to get you started:

🏁 Help kids create a realistic list of short and longer activities (like doing a puzzle or building a cubby) and plan how long they are expected to play by themselves. Younger kids may only be able to do things for a short time before they need your support.
😍 Notice when they use their plan and encourage them with praise: “I’m so proud of you for doing that all by yourself!”
⭐️ Set aside one-on-one time with your child when you can be 100% available. Feeling seen, loved and valued supports their mental health and strengthens your relationship.

This week, a small group of children gathered in our Family Lounge to enjoy a shared story together. 📚💚

At Wholechild, our learning environments are intentionally designed to support both large and small group experiences, allowing children to learn, connect, and thrive in ways that suit their individual interests and developmental needs.

Reading is an important part of children's development. Sharing stories helps build language and communication skills, expands vocabulary, strengthens listening and concentration, encourages imagination, and supports early literacy. Storytime also provides opportunities for children to ask questions, make connections, express their ideas, and develop a lifelong love of reading.
