Issue 4 of the CHS Newsletter is out, wrapping up a huge Term 2. Highlights include 400 people at the Trivia Night, six students selected for the Victorian State Schools Spectacular, strong preliminary NAPLAN results, attendance up and lateness down more than 21%, and the $17.8 million Technology Building on track for November. Plus Work Experience, Big Week Forward, sporting wins (including Year 7 Boys Footy below) and an invitation for parents to join our anti-racism focus group.

Principal Brent Houghton was pleased to be on hand when Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams MP announced bus improvements for Coburg, to be rolled out in 2027. The 526 (Coburg-Coburg North-Reservoir) and 561 (Pascoe Vale-Coburg-La Trobe Uni) will both see longer operating hours and more frequent services. Thanks to the hard work and advocacy of the 526 Bus Campaign, Safer Walking and Riding for Murray Rd and local MPs Anthony Cianflone MP and Nathan Lambert MP to help bring this about.

For the past five years we have tracked how students get to and from our school - 79% walk, ride or catch PT to school and this increases to an amazing 85% after school. It’s no surprise then that our students’ rate of daily physical activity is higher than similar schools. This announcement can only increase these figures even further. Each student making their own way to and from school also means one less car on the road, easing congestion and making our roads safer.

Six Coburg High Year 9 students are fortunate to be spending Term 1 at the beautiful Gnurad-Gundidj Campus of the School for Student Leadership in western Victoria. This program is focused on personal development, leadership education, student agency, and project-based learning. The bridge you can see in this photo was built by the students themselves!

⚠️🏫 Coburg High School Update - New Head Building Contractor Appointed to complete Technology Hub!

Following extensive engagement with the Minister for Education Ben Carroll MP , the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and the Coburg High School Community - I’m very pleased to share some good news regarding the delivery of the School’s Technology Hub!

The VSBA has now awarded Devco Project & Construction Management Pty Ltd as the new Head Building Contractor to re-commence and complete the Project.

Work has now recommenced, so Coburg High teachers, staff, students and families can now expect to see increased construction activity. Where possible, the builders will seek to minimise disruption to the usual school days, and will be working closely to mange disruptions where they may be unavoidable.

I genuinely acknowledge and appreciate the patience of the entire School community over recent months, and thank you for your ongoing support in the delivery of this important project, which will provide for 👇🏽

☑️🪚🎨 Purpose-built specialist spaces for woodwork, design, textiles, food technology and media studies
