Our Year 1/2 students have been learning about procedural texts, and this week they put their skills to the test by working in groups to write a procedure for How to Make Fairy Bread! 🍞 🌈
1/2 R:
Mrs Robbins followed each group’s recipe step by step, exactly as it was written! This led to some very funny results… from putting the whole tub of butter on the bread, to spreading butter over the entire packet of bread! Some instructions didn’t say where to spread the butter, so it ended up on paper (and even hands!), while other recipes instructed Mrs Robbins to pour an entire container of sprinkles onto the bread!
Through lots of laughter—and a little stress—students discovered just how important it is to write clear, specific and carefully sequenced instructions. Students described the experience as “so silly, stressful and hilarious!”
We finished the lesson with Mrs McLeod making fairy bread the correct way for everyone to enjoy.

The fun really began when students worked in groups and had to follow each other’s written instructions step by step to make their fairy bread. It was a fantastic (and delicious!) way to discover just how important clear instructions, sequencing and detail are when writing a procedure.
There were plenty of smiles, sprinkles and, of course, some very tasty fairy bread to enjoy at the end!
