Year 11 Health & Human Development – Learning About Parenthood

As part of Unit 2, Area of Study 1 – Health & Human Development, our Year 11 students have been exploring the many considerations associated with becoming a parent.

To bring their learning to life, we were lucky enough to welcome Emily and baby Shelby into the classroom!

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and hear first-hand about the realities and experiences of becoming a parent, including the practical, emotional, social and financial considerations involved.

A huge thank you to Emily for generously sharing her experiences with our students, and, of course, to little Shelby for being such a special classroom guest!

Experiences like these provide our students with valuable real-world perspectives and help connect classroom learning with everyday life.

**A Trade Tradition Continues at CSC**

Cobram Secondary College is excited to welcome experienced trades teacher Peter Aitken, who is bringing plenty of industry knowledge and energy back to the CSC Tech Wing.

Peter grew up in the Numurkah area and began his working life as an apprentice boilermaker at Furphy’s in Shepparton. After working across the region in a range of industries, he made the move into teaching 18 years ago, spending most of that time at Kyabram P-12 College as well as a year at Rushworth P-12 College.

Now at CSC, Peter is teaching Year 8 Technology and Year 9 Metalwork, with plans to expand the program further in 2027 when Year 10 and 11 students will have the opportunity to undertake VET Engineering and work towards a Certificate II in Engineering Studies.

It’s a great fit for Cobram Secondary College and our region.

CSC has a proud history of producing welders, boilermakers and fitters and turners, many of whom have gone on to work in, and establish, successful local businesses.
If you take a look around Cobram and the surrounding district today, you’ll find some outstanding engineering and manufacturing businesses.

For many local tradespeople, that pathway started at school with a welder, some good instruction and the opportunity to discover they were good at working with their hands.
With skilled trades continuing to be in demand, we want the next generation of CSC students to have that same opportunity.

We’re thrilled to have Peter’s trade and teaching experience matched with the fantastic facilities within our Tech Wing.

🔥🧪 Year 8 Science in Action! 🧪🔥

Our Year 8 students have been learning all about chemical reactions, and recently they had the chance to put their learning into action with an exciting combustion reaction! 🔥

It was a fantastic hands-on way to explore the science behind fire, energy and chemical change, bringing classroom learning to life. 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬✨

There’s nothing quite like seeing science in action!

🎓✨ Year 12 Dress-Up Day – Future Careers! ✨🎓

Our Year 12 students had a bit of fun today for their Future Careers Dress-Up Day, arriving at school dressed as what they might see themselves doing in the years ahead! 👩‍⚕️👨‍🔧👩‍🏫👷‍♂️🧑‍🍳

From tradies and teachers to healthcare professionals and plenty of other career aspirations, it was fantastic to see our students getting creative and thinking about where life might take them after Year 12.

With graduation getting closer, there are plenty of exciting pathways ahead for the Class of 2026. Whatever direction they choose, we can’t wait to see where their futures take them.

Every opportunity taken, every student succeeds. 💙

🏉 Outstanding Achievements on the Footy Field! 🏆

A huge congratulations to two of our Cobram Secondary College students, Wyatt Twite and Mack Holt, on their fantastic achievements in the Picola & District Football Netball League U14s.

These are outstanding individual achievements and a great reflection of the hard work, commitment and talent both boys have shown throughout the season.

We are incredibly proud to see our students achieving success both at school and within our local sporting community.

🌱 CREATING THE COMMUNITY OF TOMORROW 🌱

Cobram Secondary College was proud to bring together local community organisations for our Creating the Community of Tomorrow Luncheon, held in the Ambrosia Room at Sporties Barooga.

Representatives from BFNC, CFNC, Cobram Lions, the Masonic Lodge, Barooga Botanical Gardens, U3A and Cobram Community House joined College staff around one important question:

How can we get more young people involved in their community, while also bringing more of our community into our school?

The conversation generated some fantastic ideas for our students, from volunteering at the Barooga Botanical Gardens, Lions events and community meals, to helping in local football club canteens and catering Footy Teas.

But creating community connections is a two-way street.

We also explored the many ways our local community could become more involved at CSC, including volunteers sharing gardening and nursery expertise, retirees supporting reading programs, tradespeople speaking about career pathways, sporting clubs helping reinforce attendance and accountability, and community members sharing their skills, knowledge and experience with our students.

The luncheon was also a wonderful opportunity to showcase our talented VET Cookery students, who prepared and served an impressive four-course sit-down meal under the guidance of Chef Antonio. Mushroom cappuccino, spaghetti bolognese and fried banana were just some of the highlights!

As CSC’s Carly Marriott explained:

“We want our students to have more touch points within their community and understand that being part of a community means contributing to it. At the same time, there are so many people in our community with skills, experience and time that could make a real difference in the lives of our students.”

The ideas and connections created at the luncheon will help shape our planned CSC Volunteer Program for 2027, making it easier for community members to become involved in our College while creating more opportunities for our students to volunteer and contribute throughout the Cobram-Barooga community.

A special thank you to Sporties Barooga for its ongoing support of our VET Cookery program and for providing access to its commercial kitchen facilities, giving our students invaluable hands-on hospitality experience in an industry-standard environment.

And congratulations to Chef Antonio and students Lila Whitaker and Charlotte Cameron for delivering such an impressive meal for our guests. You did CSC proud!

Thank you to all of the community organisations and representatives who joined us and contributed their ideas. We’re excited about where these conversations can lead.

✨ Senior Formal 2026 ✨

Recently, our senior students swapped the classroom for a night of celebration as they attended their Senior Formal at 1981 at Sporties Barooga.

It was a wonderful evening filled with great outfits, plenty of smiles, dancing and lots of memories made with friends.

A special night for our senior students to come together, celebrate and enjoy this exciting stage of their secondary school journey.

🏗️ Building Pathways for Our Students 🛠️

A big thank you to Paul and Wayne from the Master Builders Association of Victoria for visiting Cobram Secondary College and delivering Construction Industry (CI) training to students interested in gaining work placement opportunities within the building and construction industry.

This training provides our students with valuable industry knowledge and helps prepare them to take the next step into real-world work experience and future career pathways.

Our students also celebrated gaining their Construction Industry Cards, an important step towards entering the building and construction industry.

Well done to all of our students who took part, and thank you to Paul and Wayne for sharing your time, knowledge and industry expertise with our students.
