Final day of competition flying at the QLD aerobatic comp 2026. Another weird day for weather - some low cloud then a high overcast with low sections passing through occasionally and light rain showers. Following the morning briefing, Unlimited flew their second flight intermixed with Advanced third flight (missed the previous day due fog). Another shower and some low cloud passed through so we took the opportunity to have lunch - amazing burgers! Intermediate were up next followed by another short intermission to wait for the rain to pass before Sportsman, Graduate/Entry combined and Unlimited final flights were flown. Pete spent the morning on the radio shack, Wayne helped out as starter and Cass got in a round of judging for Entry and Graduate. The planes were safely packed back in the hangar and then it was time for nibbles and an amazing lamb shank dinner. Massive thanks to the QLD aerobatic club for hosting! Congratulations to Wayne 1st Graduate with a clean sweep on all three flights, Pete 1st Unlimited after a long time away from comp flying & Cass 2nd Unlimited.

QLD Comp 2026 Program 1:
Slow start with low cloud and drizzle but still managed to get majority of competitors airbourne. Bring on the unknowns tomorrow!

QLD Aerobatics Comp Program 1:
Slow start to the day with drizzle and low cloud moving in from the east. It was a good opportunity to finalise unknown sequences, clean the aircraft and walk through the first flight. The cloud finally lifted enough to get Adv and Unl flying. Then another break (enjoying hot dogs - the catering at QLD comp is always a highlight!) while we waited for it to get a bit higher. Unfortunately ran out of daylight to complete Sportsman so they will likely fly twice tomorrow. Some excellent flying from all competitors with high scores across all categories. Looking forward to the unknown programs tomorrow.

Official practice at QLD Aerobatic Championships 2026:
A big field of over 20 competitors all completed at least one practice flight today in the Watts Bridge aerobatic box. Lots of new aircraft and new faces! Weather was good - high cloud and reasonable wind (a bit of on-judge drift kept us on our toes). After a morning brief, the aircraft took to the skies with non stop action until 4.30pm. Wayne picked up NZT from Gympie then flew some excellent figures in the box - several comments of the "best one turn spin we've ever seen" from the peanut gallery. Pete and Cass took to the skies twice, practicing the known sequence and some unknown figures. First briefing was held this evening with the first competition flights scheduled for tomorrow morning. Good luck!
