Recently, students from John Monash Science School, Glen Waverley Secondary College, and Mount Waverley Secondary College explored the wide range of skills and career pathways within the meteorology and climate sectors through two Industry Immersion visits to the Bureau of Meteorology training centre.
Across both visits, students participated in a range of hands-on activities led by Bureau of Meteorology professionals, each designed to develop their understanding of different areas including meteorology, climate science, and observation systems. Students used technology to capture weather data, investigated the structure of the atmosphere, and constructed their own long-range weather forecasts.
Students also gained practical experience working with weather observation technologies, reading rain gauges, and analysing wind speed. During the immersion, the Bureau of Meteorology released an Ozone Sonde Balloon, giving students the opportunity to observe the process firsthand and learn how ozone levels are measured daily.
A lively industry panel gave students the opportunity to ask questions to Bureau of Meteorology professionals from across Australia and beyond. Students heard about the diverse career journeys of staff leading the sessions, as well as weather technicians dialing in from Antarctica, Willis Island, and Giles weather stations.
Thank you to the Bureau of Meteorology for once again delivering such a valuable and engaging Industry Immersion experience for our students.

Over the past few months, weโve loved having Naailah as part of Monash Tech Schoolโs Tech Team through Monash University's IBL Program.
With just five weeks remaining in her placement, weโre excited to celebrate some of the incredible work sheโs contributed during her time at MTS.
Currently studying Software Engineering (Honours), Naailah has brought creativity, curiosity and strong technical skills into a range of projects across the school. During her placement, she has designed and developed technology-integrated learning experiences, including a full-stack web application for the Supercyber program focused on online interactions and data privacy, alongside interactive systems using HuskyLens technology to explore identity verification and system trust.
A huge thank you to the Monash Information Technology Industry-Based Learning Program at Monash University for their ongoing partnership and support over the past few years. Through the program, weโve had the opportunity to work alongside talented and passionate students who continue to make valuable contributions to the work we do at MTS.

Scoring Goals On and Off the Field ๐
Delivered in partnership with St Kilda Football Club and Holmesglen, our Supersport industry immersion program allowed Year 10-12 female students to explore careers and pathways in the AFLW, Technology, and Communications sectors.
We were proud to partner with St Kilda Football Club for this immersive experience, with their AFLW players, facilities and dedicated staff creating an engaging and authentic environment for the day.
Following the immersion, half of all surveyed students said they were more likely to explore a future career in STEM.
Supersport showcased how programs like this can empower young women to see themselves in the world of sport. By building confidence, skills and awareness of opportunities, students were encouraged to imagine their place in an evolving and inclusive industry.
Students were smiling, laughing, asking thoughtful questions, and genuinely engaging with every experience. It was a powerful reminder of what happens when girls are given the space, support and inspiration to step into new opportunities.
A sincere thank you to both St Kilda Football Club and Holmesglen Institute for their ongoing support and collaboration in bringing this program to life.

Breaking barriers through shared learning ๐ค
To welcome the start of Term 2, we had the opportunity to host a Shared Learning Day focused on a powerful theme: removing barriers to student learning and engagement in STEM.
We were joined by teams from Banyule Nillumbik Tech School and Wangaratta Tech School GOTAFE, with 14 attendees across both sites. It was especially exciting to connect with Wangaratta to support them as they officially open for Term 3.
Our team at Monash Tech School shared how we design, develop, and deliver programs with accessibility and engagement at the core. Barriers to STEM can take many forms, from lack of interest or confidence to challenges around accessibility, and addressing these requires student-focused, design thinking.
The Tech team showcased a range of bespoke solutions we have built to actively remove these barriers in our programs. We opened up conversations around the real challenges we have faced and the practical approaches we have taken to overcome them, with the goal of providing ideas and resources others could take back to apply when developing their own programs.
Looking forward to continuing this exchange in Term 3 when Banyule Nillumbik Tech School hosts the next Shared Learning Day. ๐งก

Women Powering Clean Energy ๐ฑ
As part of the Monash Tech School Clean Energy Engagement program, 15 Year 10 students from John Monash Science School and Mount Waverley Secondary College attended the Women Powering Clean Energy event hosted by Blue Power Partners in the city.
Held in celebration of International Womenโs Day, the event spotlighted the journeys of women working across the clean energy sector. Students heard firsthand how career paths are rarely linear, with many speakers sharing that they are now working in roles they never imagined while at school. A clear message emerged around the value of staying curious, embracing opportunities, and pursuing work that aligns with personal passions.
The day concluded with a networking lunch, where students engaged in meaningful conversations with industry professionals, asking questions and gaining deeper insight into potential future pathways.
Experiences like this are incredibly valuable in showcasing real-world careers and connecting students with inspiring role models across the clean energy sector. A big thank you to Blue Power Partners, as well as the teachers and staff who supported students in attending this opportunity.
