JLTAV Japanese Language Teachers' Association of Victoria The Japanese Language Teachers Association of Victoria, Inc. (JLTAV) is a professional association for Japanese language teachers in Victoria.

Membership of the Association provides access to high quality teacher professional learning, and student events that engage students in Japanese language studies. The JLTAV Committee is made up entirely of volunteer teachers who work for the promotion and improvement of Japanese language teaching in Victoria. It does this by providing professional development for teachers and learning opportunitie

2026 JLTAV Junior Speech Competition
This year's competition will be held on Sunday 30 August at the Hawthorn Arts Centre.

Please find here some advice to teachers to assist in this year's preparations.

Please note that all contestants (students) and audience members (teachers and family members) require tickets for each division they are participating in or watching. This helps us to allocate the spaces we use for each division of the competition according to the number of registrations. All tickets are free, however, students need to pay the registration fee in order to participate in the competition. Please click on the link below to be taken to the Humanitix website to organise the tickets. The teacher in charge is responsible for organising the tickets on behalf of their school/students/parents. All tickets for contestants and audience members must be organised through Humanitix by Friday 14 August.

Participating schools will be informed of the start and finish times for each division closer to the day of the competition.

Please note that there have been two updates to the Year 9 and 10 set conversation and the Year 9 and 10 set speech.

Japanese Film Screening

As you may be aware, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Japan-Australia Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

The Consulate-General of Japan in Melbourne is organising a free screening of the Japanese documentary film 'The Making of a Japanese (「小学校~それは小さな社会~」)'. This screening is being held with the cooperation of the Japan Foundation, JFF Theatre, and various universities.

This month, Monash University is hosting the event; next month, it will be held at RMIT University; and finally in July, the University of Melbourne will host the screening.
