We asked Monash students for their best sustainability life hacks for World Environment Day! ๐๐
World Environment Day is all about raising awareness and taking action to protect our planet. So remember: big changes start with small habits. You can help reduce waste and protect nature by making simple shifts every day, like:
๐ด Using active transport: Walking, riding a bike or catching public transport
โ Reusing items: Bringing your own coffee cup or water bottle to campus
๐๏ธ Sorting your waste: Reducing consumption where you can and recycling consciously
Every small action counts!
What is your top sustainability tip or life hack? Let us know in the comments! ๐ฌ๐

Your old runners deserve a victory lap! ๐โโ๏ธ๐จ
Instead of sending your end-of-life shoes to landfill, give them a second life with & .asga
This April and May, Monash Sport are collecting your old kicks to be recycled into gym flooring, playground surfaces and more!
How to help:
1๏ธโฃ Grab those worn-out runners
2๏ธโฃ Head to a Monash Sport Service Desk
3๏ธโฃ Drop them in the donation box
Itโs that easy to make an impact. Letโs keep the planet (and your wardrobe) clean! ๐โจ
EcoFriendly
POV: You realised you donโt need to own everything to enjoy it. ๐โจ
If your room is hitting max capacity and your wallet is looking a bit thin, itโs time to head to SURLY. Itโs the student recreational library and the ultimate sustainability hack. โป๏ธ
Why hit the shops when you can borrow for free? Choosing to borrow instead of buy is a massive win for the planet (and your bank account).
What youโll find inside:
๐ All the manga, comics and graphic novels youโve been meaning to read
๐ฒ Board games for your next night in with the housemates
๐ง A record player and vinyl collection
๐ฎ A Nintendo setup to play on the spot when the study brain-fog hits
Ditch the shops, save your coin and keep things circular. Visit SURLY at Level 1 of Campus Centre during weekdays 9.30am - 6.30pm. ๐ค

Donโt ghost your Easter egg wrappers this weekend. ๐ซ
Aluminium is a recycling MVP because it can be recycled infinitely... But only if itโs large enough to be sorted by a recycling machine!
So once youโve finished your chocolate haul, scrunch your egg foil into the size of a tennis ball. Then place your wrapping into the yellow recycling bin.
An easy win for the planet this long weekend. โ

Pizza for lunch? ๐ After you enjoy your slice, take a simple few steps to recycle your box properly!
โ
Clean lid? Tear it off and recycle it!
๐ซ Greasy base? Toss it in landfill.
If youโre eating on campus, take it to the next level and bring a reusable plate to avoid any waste! Enjoy your next slice with the planet in mind ๐๐๐

The next time you visit Jock Marshall Reserve at Clayton Campus, you may spot a couple of newcomers. ๐๐ Friends of the JMR need your help to name the two new goats that will be busy helping to remove weeds on site.
These goats are natural browsers, which means they love to eat invasive grasses and weeds, helping native plants to grow.
You can now submit your name suggestions by visiting Friends of the JMR: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe8siDwMUqT_PM44MYN6XA4irpIJsmeyvcg0D-yGSsg41RGjw/viewform
๐ฑ Haven't heard of Jock Marshall Reserve? JMR is a three hectare ecological sanctuary and environmental research facility which is home to a range of native flora. The reserve has been protected by Monash University since 1961 for research and teaching.
