Drink beer for research: Participants wanted for neuroimaging study!
We are currently recruiting participants for a research study that aims to understand our diet can influence our brain's response to alcohol. In particular, we're interested in understanding whether diets high in fat may sensitivity of the brain's reward circuitry, and whether this sensitisation may influence a person's desire to consume alcohol.
What does it involve?
· One 20-minute telephone interview
· One 3-hour testing session at Monash Biomedical Imaging (just opposite the Clayton Campus)
During the testing session you will:
· Be provided with something to eat for breakfast
· Complete some questionnaires and a brief assessment of your verbal & reasoning skills
· Undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, during which you will complete a task where you will earn sips of beer based on your performance.
All participants will be reimbursed with a $50 Coles Group giftcard for their time.
Interested? You may be eligible if you:
· Are 18-24 years old
· Have engaged in casual drinking in the past year
· Have no history of psychiatric or neurological illness, or traumatic brain injury
· Have no food allergies / intolerances / dietary requirements
· Have no adverse reactions to alcohol at low doses
· Have no MRI contraindications
· Are right-handed
· Are taking no medications that interact with alcohol (i.e., antihistamines, antibiotics)
