An ultrasonic sensor works on the same principles as a radar. They convert electrical energy into ultrasound and vice versa. The HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensor is used to measure distance. It emits ultrasound at a frequency of 40 kHz which bounces off the obstacle closest to the sensor. Speed and total travel time are used to calculate distance.

The piezoelectric sensor detects mechanical changes in the environment and converts them into electrical charge. They are sensors based on the piezoelectric effect and are mainly used to measure vibration, acceleration, strain, force and motion.
