Last week Year 9 survived the cold, sleeping in tents, activities and their own camp cooking at Cobb & Co Camping grounds near Gympie.

Activities such as Rafting, Survival Skills (fire building and water filtering), Archery Tag and Search & Rescue, provided the opportunity for the 9s to come together as teams to problem solve, strengthen friendship and build new ones, and work collaboratively to ‘survive’.

Perhaps the highlight of the camp was the Tribal Link Bonfire where we witnessed Indigenous dancers, and informative and inspirational storytelling.

The Year 9s were outstanding in achieving our goals: giving everything a go and always demonstrating respect. Thank you to the teachers who accompanied the 9s and were a huge part of the success of the camp.

Nagle and Collins Houses began the week together in prayer and reflection in Community Mass. It was a meaningful opportunity for students and members of our College community to step away from the usual pace of the morning and strengthen the connections within both Houses whilst coming together in worship.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the liturgy and joined us for this special gathering.

Our next Community Mass will bring Hogan and Xaverian Houses together on Tuesday 18 August from 8:00am to 8:30am. Members of both House communities are warmly invited to attend.

This week's Whole School Assembly was a wonderful celebration of faith, achievement and community.

We reflected on the life of St Mary MacKillop - Australia's first canonised saint, whose Feast Day is celebrated on 8 August. Known for her courage, compassion and deep trust in God, Mary co-founded the Sisters of St Joseph to educate children in poor and remote communities across Australia. As a fellow Australian, her example reminds us to take action in the face of injustice and to have courage in the face of adversity. Her words continue to inspire us today: "Never see a need without doing something about it." A true Woman of Action.

We were also treated to an outstanding performance from our Big Band, heard inspiring reflections from students on their recent Europe and New York tours, celebrated our incredible Sports Department on their Catholic Education Team of the Year nomination, and recognised our newly appointed Student Voice Council members.

A wonderful celebration of the many ways our students and staff continue to live out our motto, Virtute Non Verbis – Action, Not Words.

Semester Two Primary House Leaders recently joined students from St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace for an inspiring Leadership Workshop focused on developing the skills and qualities of effective leaders. Through a range of collaborative activities, students strengthened their confidence, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while exploring the positive impact they can have within their communities.

A highlight of the day was the opportunity to brainstorm and plan a Semester Two initiative that will contribute to the Primary community and leave a lasting legacy at St Rita’s College. We are excited to see these student-led ideas come to life and are proud of the enthusiasm, creativity, and leadership our students demonstrated throughout the workshop.

Our Year 10 and 11 Visual Art students recently immersed themselves in a hands-on ceramics workshop, exploring the ways clay can be used to tell stories, express ideas and bring creative concepts to life.

Through experimenting with texture, form and surface decoration, students developed their technical skills while embracing the creative process from initial idea to finished piece. Inspired by themes of nature, storytelling and personal expression, they were encouraged to take creative risks, problem-solve and discover their own artistic voice.

Opportunities to learn alongside practising artists give our students valuable insight into contemporary art-making and the many possibilities within the visual arts. It was wonderful to see their creativity, curiosity and confidence grow as they transformed simple pieces of clay into unique and meaningful works.

We thank Brisbane ceramic artist Carys Martin for sharing her expertise and inspiring our students to explore new ways of creating through ceramics.

In Week 3, our Year 11 & 12 students Sienna, Anna, Emily, Abbey, Tahlia, Anika, Kiara, Zara, Mia and Tatiana attended the Lourdes Hill Social Justice Youth Forum, joining students from across Brisbane Catholic colleges for an important conversation on gender-based violence, gender inequality, and safe, respectful relationships, led by Youth Clinical Nurse Paula Kenny.

Our girls engaged thoughtfully in discussions on recognising healthy vs. unhealthy relationship markers, a powerful and important topic for young people today.

Instead of an entry fee, students donated travel-size toiletries, packed together on the day for Micah Projects, supporting justice and dignity in our local community.

This week our school joins Catholic communities across Queensland in celebrating Catholic Education Week 2026, under the theme Share your light, inspire others. The theme calls on students, staff and families to recognise their own gifts and share them generously, nurturing individual talent and faith while inspiring others through service, compassion and example.

On Tuesday 28 July, Year 12 students Mia, Chelsy and Eva attended the official state-wide launch of Catholic Education Week at St Stephen's Cathedral, joining schools from across the Archdiocese to represent our College as part of the wider Catholic community.

The celebration shared what makes Catholic education truly unique: giving light to others and letting our light shine, as faith, academic excellence and care for the whole person come together to form young people in knowledge, compassion and service.
