Dear Year 12 Students and Families,

As our Year 12 students prepare to embark on their HSC examinations, our Catholic community is presented with two special opportunities to gather in prayer, thanksgiving and support for them during this significant milestone.

These occasions are memorable moments in the life of our school and form an important part of the rich traditions of Catholic education. They provide an opportunity for us to come together as a faith community, giving thanks for the journey our students have undertaken and praying for them as they approach the final stage of their secondary schooling.

The first of these celebrations is our St Bede's Year 12 Thanksgiving Mass, which will be held at 6.00pm on Wednesday 16 September in the Mary Mother of Hope Oratory. This is an intimate celebration for our Year 12 students and their families, providing a special opportunity to reflect on their time at St Bede's and to seek God's blessings as they prepare for the challenges ahead.

The second celebration will take place as part of the Youth Mass at St Joseph's Church, East Maitland, at 6.00pm on Sunday 20 September. This Mass brings together Year 12 students from across the Chisholm Region, including students from St Bede's, All Saints College, Maitland and St Joseph's College, Lochinvar. It is a wonderful expression of the wider Catholic community, celebrating and praying for our young people as they prepare to complete their schooling.

We encourage all Year 12 students and their families to make every effort to attend these important events. It is through our shared presence, prayer and support that we demonstrate the strength of our Catholic community and our commitment to accompanying our students through this important chapter of their lives. Further details of these masses will be provided in the coming week.

We look forward to gathering with you to give thanks for all that our students have achieved and to pray for God's guidance, wisdom and peace as they prepare to undertake their HSC examinations.

Last Wednesday, six of our Year 11 students were presented with awards at Newcastle City Hall, hosted by Lord Mayor Cr Gavin Morris, recognising their contribution to the Combined Schools ANZAC Event.

Earlier this year, the students represented our college at the Combined Schools ANZAC Event, held at Civic Theatre and the Cenotaph at Civic Park, Newcastle. Over many months and supported by Mrs Leesa Moore, they researched the theme of ‘tributes’ before confidently presenting their findings to an audience of several thousand students and teachers.

The students also organised for every student attending the event to lay their own poppy, creating a meaningful and respectful tribute to those who have served.

All six students presented with confidence and professionalism, representing our college with great pride. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, hard work and the respectful way in which they honoured such an important occasion. Congratulations to Harriet, Ava, Millie, Joss, Harry and Alec!

OUR 7/8 BOYS ARE NETBALL REGIONAL CHAMPIONS! 🏆

WHAT. A. GAME.
Our boys went undefeated all day before heading into the Grand Final, and what followed was an absolute nail biter!
Both teams went goal for goal, refusing to give an inch.
At the end of the second half… DRAW! Which meant OVERTIME!
The boys continued to trade goals, but after another intense period… ANOTHER DRAW!
It all came down to a two goal lead game… and with the pressure on, Lennox Lindsell stepped up and slotted the winning goal!

What an incredible achievement for this group of boys. They showed composure, determination, teamwork and plenty of heart all day, and they should be SO proud of what they have achieved.
And to top it all off… they are the FIRST St Bede’s Netball team to progress to the STATE TITLES!

We couldn’t be prouder. What a team. What a day. What a moment!

ST BEDES HPE DAY 2026! 🏀⚽️🏐
What a day we had celebrating all things Health & Physical Education! The day was filled with laughs, sunshine and great vibes.
The day kicked off with a healthy breakfast of yoghurt, muesli and berries before students took on the obstacle course and got the energy flowing!

Break 1 was packed with a range of activities run by our HPE staff, including:�💃 Just Dance�🏉 Footy Target Throw�🧠 Kahoot�🏀 3 v 3 Basketball Competition�⚽️ Soccer Shoot Out�🏐 Netball Shoot Out�🏃‍♀️ Obstacle Course�🔥 BlazePod Challenge�🏐 Rebound Net Challenge

There was plenty of competition, plenty of laughs and some serious talent on display!

We then wrapped up the day in the Hall with a presentation for our Break 1 winners, who took home some awesome prizes, including $20 vouchers and brand new sporting equipment!

And then it was time for the annual Teacher vs Year 12 Volleyball showdown… 👀
Year 12 brought the energy and put up a strong fight, but the teachers managed to hold onto their title once again! The trophy stays with the teachers for another year! 🏆

A huge thank you to everyone who competed, participated, supported and helped make HPE Day 2026 such a successful day! 💜💛

Year 7 stepped into the world of forensic science with the exciting launch of CSI Chisholm! As part of their cross-curricular STEM project, students became forensic investigators, putting their problem-solving and observation skills to the test. From cracking codes and analysing fingerprints to examining evidence from the crime scene, students began piecing together the clues. Today's boys are growing up in a world full of competing messages about masculinity, relationships, identity and success. From social media and online influencers to peer culture and digital communities, young people are constantly exposed to ideas that shape how they see themselves and others.

As parents and carers, we play an important role in helping boys navigate these influences and develop into respectful, thoughtful and confident young men.

The Diocese's peak parent body, the FACE Forum Federation, invites you to join them for an evening with educator and advocate, Daniel Principe, who will share practical insights and research-based strategies to help parents:
• Understand the online, social and cultural influences shaping boys today.
• Recognise healthy and unhealthy expressions of masculinity.
• Build stronger connections with their sons.
• Develop confidence in conversations about respect, relationships and values.
