Each week we’ll be diving into a new hands-on project — from painting and soft pastels to clay, weaving and mini world dioramas — all designed to encourage creativity, confidence and independent thinking.

With the wild weather rolling in this weekend, I’ve made the call to postpone Saturday’s art journaling session.

I’m so looking forward to this Junk Journal Workshop at The Barn — two relaxed mornings of layering, stitching, painting and creating something beautifully imperfect.

🎨 The Barn Kids Homeschoolers Art Club – Little Clay Treasures

This week in our homeschool art sessions we’re creating Little Clay Treasures — tiny sculpted creatures and imaginative characters made completely by hand.

Think turtles, elephants, mushrooms, little houses or whatever the kids dream up. Each child designs and sculpts their own piece before painting and adding personality to bring it to life.

Working with clay is wonderful for kids because it helps develop:

✨ Fine motor skills and hand strength
✨ Creative thinking and imagination
✨ Problem solving and design skills
✨ Patience and focus

It’s also just really satisfying getting your hands messy and turning a lump of clay into something magical.

I still have a few spots available in both homeschool sessions this week:

🌟 Young Artist of the Week – Isla!

Isla created this fantastic Totem Folk sculpture in class and it’s full of personality. Each little character has its own face and story, and she even added a glowing base to finish it off!

One of the best parts of these classes is seeing how kids take the same materials and turn them into something completely different. Isla’s imagination really shone through with this one.

Well done Isla — we absolutely love it! 🎨👏

🎨 This Saturday – Art Journaling: Modern Colour Mixing

Did you know you only really need three colours to create almost everything?

This Saturday we’re diving into modern colour theory — learning how to mix vibrant secondary colours, create beautiful neutrals, and understand why some mixes go muddy (and how to avoid it!).

This isn’t a paint-by-numbers session.
It’s playful. Experimental. A little bit nerdy (in the best way).

You’ll:
✨ Explore warm vs cool primaries
✨ Mix your own custom palette
✨ Create your own colour mixing chart
✨ Build confidence in choosing colours intentionally

Perfect for beginners and experienced creatives alike — especially if you’ve ever said,
“Why does my paint always turn brown?” 😉
