Staff Development Day 5
Salamah College commenced Term 4 with a productive Staff Development Day, bringing together our Primary and Secondary staff for a day of professional learning, collaboration and preparation for the term ahead.
The day began with an informative workshop led by our Principal, Mr Ayman Alwan, who reinforced the College's commitment to fostering a positive school culture built on wellbeing, respect, consistency and continuous improvement. A central focus of the session was staff and student wellbeing, recognising that safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments are essential for academic success and personal growth. Mr Alwan highlighted the important role every staff member plays in ensuring students feel safe, valued, respected and supported.
The workshop also addressed positive behaviour management and consistent school-wide expectations, emphasising the importance of clear communication, positive reinforcement, fairness and constructive approaches to student behaviour. Staff were encouraged to recognise and celebrate positive behaviour while maintaining consistent practices that promote responsibility, respect and student engagement.
Another key component was reflection and continuous school improvement. Mr Alwan shared insights from parent, student and staff satisfaction surveys, highlighting the importance of listening to our school community, celebrating achievements and identifying opportunities for further growth. Staff performance reviews, professional expectations and operational priorities were also discussed to strengthen collaboration, accountability and consistency across the College.
Following the Principal's workshop, staff participated in professional learning sessions tailored to their respective departments and teaching priorities.
Our Primary staff participated in a practical professional learning session exploring Chalkie AI, an innovative tool designed to support the development of structured and engaging explicit teaching PowerPoint presentations. Working collaboratively across Science and Technology, HSIE, Creative Arts and PDHPE, teachers explored ways to integrate technology into curriculum planning, strengthen instructional practices and develop high-quality teaching resources in preparation for 2027.
Meanwhile, our Secondary staff engaged in professional learning focused on curriculum planning, assessment practices and student wellbeing. Led by Secondary School Coordinator Mrs Alameddine, staff reviewed updated NESA and ACE requirements, curriculum documentation and assessment expectations for 2027. Secondary School Welfare Officer Mr Foster introduced the new behaviour management system, reinforcing consistent expectations and positive approaches to student behaviour. The day also included faculty meetings led by Heads of Departments, providing opportunities for collaborative curriculum planning and preparation for the upcoming academic year.
Our Primary Arabic and Religion teachers participated in a valuable religious advice session focusing on positive and effective approaches to interacting with and guiding children. This was followed by a wellbeing workshop where teachers explored real-life scenarios, discussed challenging situations and identified practical strategies to respond with care, understanding and professionalism. Staff also dedicated time to curriculum planning, preparing teaching programs and organising resources in readiness for the return of students in Term 4.
Staff Development Day 5 reinforced the importance of collaboration, professional growth and a shared commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Across all departments, the day provided meaningful opportunities for staff to reflect, strengthen their practices and prepare for another successful term.
