Milpera State High School

Milpera State High School Milpera State High School provides English language & settlement services for newly arrived students.

Milpera State High School is a special purpose state high school which teaches English language across curriculum areas. It also provides settlement services to newly arrived immigrant and refugee background young people to prepare them for living and studying in Australia. Milpera State High School is committed to maximising the full human potential of every student within a socially just and cul

turally inclusive environment. We achieve this by delivering a quality educational and settlement service that is needs based in order to gain the best learning and settlement outcomes for our learners and their families. All of the students who come to Milpera are speakers of languages other than English when they arrive. Some are children of business or work migrants, some are joining family already in Australia, and some are victims of war and/or political unrest in their home countries. Most of the students are permanent residents who are starting a new life in Australia, but some may have temporary visas, be waiting for visas or be on bridging visas. All of the students are approved by the Minister for Education to attend school in Australia. Year 6 and Junior secondary students (11 to 14 years old) and Senior secondary students (15 to 17 years old) are eligible to enrol.

šŸŒ Sharing, Learning and Connecting at Milpera!

As part of Education Queensland International(EQI) Marine Education Teacher Training Program, teachers from Taiwan spent part of their school holidays visiting Milpera.

They learned about the Milpera way, visited classrooms and observed a range of subjects. They also had the opportunity to speak and observe SAR/HOW and HEAL rooms, followed by lots of questions and discussion.

A wonderful day of sharing knowledge and building connections!

On 30 July, Milpera celebrated Term 3 Welcome Assembly. Our Principal, Ms Peel, shared a wonderful message about how we all bring different "backpacks" of learning. Some of us shine in subjects, others in cooking, sport, or understanding and supporting people—and every strength matters.

At Milpera, we are proud to have 65 languages and cultures represented in our school. Every language is unique and special, and we encourage everyone to respect and value the languages and cultures of others.

A big thank you to Room 12 for demonstrating our expected ways of being at Milpera, and congratulations to our Milpera Champion Award recipients! šŸ‘

Rooms 9, 17, 23 and 24 enjoyed an exciting excursion to QPAC. The students had the opportunity to watch ā€˜Permission granted’ - a show that makes music engaging and accessible for young minds through the use of beatboxing and musical improvisation.

Our students explored the building blocks of music; through engaging performances and interactive activities, they discovered rhythm, pitch, melody, and sound, experiencing these elements through singing, piano, guitar, and beatboxing!

Special thank you to QPAC Performing Arts Centre for giving our students this wonderful opportunity and a big shout out to our awesome teachers and TAs who made this day fun and inspiring for our students.
