Significant city-wide closures will be in place Sunday 30th August while 40,000 people take part in the TCS Sydney Marathon. 💪

What you need to know:

🏅 Avoid non-essential travel. Travel across the city will be very limited with lengthy detours in place.
🏅 The Sydney Harbour Bridge will be CLOSED from 3am to 11am. The Harbour Tunnel remains open, but delays expected.
🏅 Major roads across North Sydney, Sydney C*D and Kingsford will be CLOSED between 2am and 4:30pm. Expect delays on the Eastern Distributor.
🏅 Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect from 12:01am, vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.
🏅 Buses and light rail services will be significantly impacted by road closures.
🏅The Cross City Tunnel will be toll-free 5am-4:30pm.

Su***de Prevention is about people and in Australia, we lose about nine people to su***de every day. That’s 9 people too many.

Su***de Prevention is everyone’s business, and your union takes it seriously.

AWU WA Secretary, Brad Gandy attended the National Su***de Prevention Conference in Sydney earlier this year to take our members’ lived experience and share it with the experts in the field. Brad shared his experience of the conference and what it means to workers across Australia in this week’s Sunday Times, Sound Telegraph and Mandurah Times.

Our members work long hours in gruelling condition and often face a workplace culture that tells many to simply “harden up” or “push through”. That culture is costing lives.

Unions play a crucial role. We are a trusted resource for workers, we are on the ground and we hear the quiet conversations.

Unions are not a replacement for clinical or crisis services, but we are often the first conversation.

This isn’t about making tough industries soft. It’s about making them strong as a mentally healthy workforce is a safer workforce.

Su***de prevention must be built into the safety system - because every worker deserves to come home in one piece, body and mind.

The AWU will have more to announce to support our members’ mental health later this year.
