Woohoo! 🎉 We’re delighted to announce that 103 recipients have been awarded a 2024 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant. 🏅

Watch out as 1st Red Hill Scouts ‘Nature Guardians’ 🦸‍♀️ plan a Biodiversity Blitz 🌿 to identify local species and establish wildlife corridors linking their Scout Hall to neighbouring bushland areas. 🌲

What a wonderful experience it will be for the children in Research Primary School’s ‘Paradise Project’ 🌸 as they preserve and enhance local biodiversity, particularly for the endangered Gang-Gang Cockatoo. 🦜💚

We know Fernbrook School’s students participating in their ‘Restoring Ecosystems’ project 🌱 will be kept super busy identifying, labelling, and mapping 600 indigenous plants 🌿 and creating a QR trail along a corridor connecting the National Park 🏞️ to Wicks Reserve.

Funded by the Victorian Government, the grants of up to $5,000 each 💰 play a vital role in empowering young people to value and take action for the natural environment. 🌏🌳Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action

📚 Today we celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day (Wednesday 4th Sept), which is a vibrant celebration that honours the rich stories, cultures, and languages of First Nations Peoples. 🌏 It raises awareness about the literacy challenges faced by remote Indigenous communities. With the help of our First Nations Landcare Working Group, we have pulled together a list of great books for children and young people that beautifully capture First Nations language, culture, Indigenous history, and storytelling. 📖

Do you have a great children’s book on nature to recommend? 🌱 Please share in the comments below.
