Sydney Robotics Academy is running a 3D Printing Holiday Program this September — and it's not your average holiday activity.

Here's what makes it different:

Most 3D printing programs hand kids a template and press go. Ours don't. Every child designs their own creation from scratch — a figure, a gadget, a gift for a friend — using real 3D design software. Then they watch it print, layer by layer, right in front of them.

When something goes wrong (and it will), they troubleshoot it themselves. That process of figuring out why and fixing it? That's design thinking. That's the kind of problem-solving that schools spend years trying to teach.

If your child has ever taken apart a toy just to see how it works — VEX IQ robotics might be exactly what they've been waiting for. 🔧

VEX IQ is a global robotics competition program for school-age kids. Students design, build, and program their own robots entirely from scratch — then put them to the test in real tournaments. The competition pathway runs from local and regional events all the way to the World Championship in the United States, and yes, Australian kids genuinely make it there.

In fact, our team at Sydney Robotics Academy was the first Australian team in history to win the VEX Robotics World Championship. 🏆 That's not something we say lightly — it's proof that with the right coaching, kids from Sydney can compete and win on the world stage.

Here's what we hear most from parents: “My child isn't really a maths or tech kid, is this right for them?” The honest answer is that VEX IQ isn't just for one type of kid. It rewards creativity, persistence, and teamwork just as much as technical skill. We've seen all kinds of children discover a passion they didn't know they had.

For VEX competition teams in Sydney — and the parents supporting them. 👇

Your child has a team. They've been putting in the hours — building, coding, strategising. But as competition season approaches, a lot of teams hit the same wall: they're working hard, but not sure if they're working on the right things.

And often, the students themselves can feel it. They know something's off with the robot design, or the match strategy isn't clicking — but they don't have the outside perspective to fix it.

That's exactly what SRA's private competition coaching is designed to address.

Each session is tailored to what your team actually needs: a full robot design review, programming optimisation, match simulation, driver skills training, or game-play run-throughs against realistic scenarios. In 2021, a team of students from Chatswood did something no Australian team had ever done before — they won the VEX Robotics World Championship. 🇦🇺🏆

Competing against 20,000+ students from over 60 countries, SRA's Team 988A took home the title. It wasn't a fluke. It was the result of years of structured training, expert coaching, and a program built specifically around competition excellence.

🇦🇺 Sydney kids on the world stage — and we couldn't be prouder.

The 2026 VEX Robotics World Championship is underway in the USA, and Knox Grammar's robotics team is there — with SRA coaches right alongside them.

If you've never heard of VEX Worlds, here's why it's a big deal: it holds a Guinness World Record as the largest robotics competition on Earth, with teams from over 70 countries competing every year. This isn't a local tournament or a regional qualifier. This is the pinnacle of student robotics — and only the very best teams in the world make it through.

This team didn't just get lucky. They earned their spot the hard way:
✅ Multiple awards at the NSW State Championship (November 2025)
🏆 Australian National Champion title (December 2025)
🎫 Official qualification for the 2026 VEX World Championship

Our SRA coaches are in Dallas this week wearing two hats — volunteering in the event operations (because our coaches don't just train teams, they help run the world's biggest robotics events) and providing on-the-ground support for Knox every step of the way.
