Book Week at Columba has been full of reading, curiosity and community!

Over the past week, students have been putting their literary knowledge to the test in our Match the Teacher to Their Favourite Book competition, discovering surprising reading favourites among our staff.๐Ÿ“š

We were also excited to launch our new Community Bookshelf, giving students and families the opportunity to share, swap and discover books. A big thank you to everyone who has already donated books to help get this initiative started.๐Ÿ“•

At lunchtime, students enjoyed readings from the 2026 CBCA Book Week Shortlist, bringing great stories to life and encouraging a love of reading beyond the classroom. A special thank you to Ms McCarthy, Mr Tyrie, Ms Ebelt and Mr Luxton for generously giving their time to read to students throughout the week.๐Ÿ‘

Book Week reminds us that reading has the power to connect, inspire and transport us to new worlds. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the week such a success! ๐Ÿ“˜

Our Year 5 students took their Science learning outdoors with a hands-on investigation into erosion and how it can be reduced.

Students built sandcastles in the play area before putting different erosion mitigation strategies in place around one of their structures. They then put their designs to the test, applying both โ€œwindโ€ and โ€œwaterโ€ erosion to see whether their strategies could help protect the sand and reduce erosion.

It was a fun and practical way to bring classroom learning to life, encouraging students to observe, experiment and think like scientists! ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ‘

There were plenty of smiles and lots of learning when our Year 1 students welcomed some very special local firefighters to school! ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš’

Our students discovered some important fire safety tips, learnt about the equipment firefighters use and had the opportunity to see what itโ€™s like to be a real-life firefighting hero. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿงฏ

Of course, the highlight of the visit was getting hands-on with the fire hose! ๐Ÿ’ฆ What a fantastic way to bring their learning to life!

A huge thank you to our local firefighters for taking the time to visit our Year 1 students and help them learn how to stay safe. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’
