Congratulations to Anthony who has officially commenced a Head Start School Based Apprenticeship with Dunmunkle Lodge through Skillinvest working towards a Certificate II in Horticulture.
This opportunity enables Anthony to combine his VCE VM studies at Birchip P-12 School with on-the-job training, formal study and a pathway into a career post school.
Thank you Dunmunkle Lodge & Skillinvest for providing a young person with this fantastic opportunity.

Broader Horizons in Boort!

Our students had the opportunity to get out into the community and explore the diverse career pathways available right here in Boort.

They connected with local businesses including Boort District Health, Lanyon Engineering, Boort Pre-school and Cobram Estate Olives, gaining valuable insight into the skills, roles and opportunities available across a range of industries.

It was fantastic to see students discovering just how many opportunities are right on their doorstep! 👏

As always, a huge thank you to the local businesses who give their time, share their knowledge and invest in the next generation. We couldn’t run these experiences without you!

Dam Renovation Project - East Loddon Year 11 VM

The farm dam has been excavated and is now ready for its environmental makeover! 🌱

Today, students were treated to a rich and informative session with Yorta-Yorta, Barapa-Barapa man Kai Lane, who shared his knowledge of traditional practices and aquatic habitat.

Students learned how to make habitat pods for fish using lignum, something they’ll put into practice next week as the restoration project continues.

The project is giving students the opportunity to be hands-on in a live wetland restoration project, from waterhole design and habitat construction to raising native fish, collecting seed, propagating plants and restoring the riparian zone.

The project will culminate in a youth-led presentation where students will share what they’ve learned and discovered, as well as release the fish they’ve raised.

Community members and parents are invited to join us for the dam opening called “The Ripple Effect” on the 15 September. 🌿 Bear & Twigg Regenerative Farming

Week 2 of Passions & Pathways in Boort! 🚀

The students were visited by Elias Lanyon and Laura Hardy (from the UK), both sharing their career journeys.

"While their pathways were very different, they shared a common message about being brave and saying yes to opportunities that might come your way."

It kicked off with a visit from Paul who demonstrated health and safety in the workplace. The class also had a visit from Eddie Moresi who shared his career pathway.

YTO Dam Revival

The latest Youth Take Over project is underway at Canary Island Farm, Bear and Twigg, where East Loddon VM students are working alongside local farmers Jo, Greg and Alby Bear to transform a traditional farm dam into a thriving habitat for native birds, fish and aquatic plants.

Day 1 saw students learn what makes a healthy water ecosystem before rolling up their sleeves to begin renovating the dam.

On Day 2, the project continued back at school with a visit from Chris Lamin of Middle Creek Hatchery. Students learnt about native fish breeding and have since set up cattle troughs at school to raise native fish, which will be released into the restored farm dam at the end of the term.

This hands-on project is giving students the opportunity to learn about environmental restoration, biodiversity and sustainable land management while making a lasting impact on a local farming property.

Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses! Bear & Twigg Regenerative Farming Loddon Plains Landcare Network
