📚🐦 Book of the Month: Birdie and the Flood 🐦📚

Last month, we explored the beautiful story Birdie and the Flood by Andrea Murray and Antil Tortop. 🌿💛

We were very lucky to welcome Deb Alick and Jennie Feildmier, who brought the story to life for the children through an engaging puppet experience. The children loved watching Birdie’s story unfold and connecting with her journey.

After reading the book, the children worked together to create nests for Birdie, helping to keep her safe. Through this experience, the children explored themes of caring, kindness, collaboration and empathy, while using their creativity to support Birdie. 🪹🐦

The children shared some beautiful thoughts along the way:
💬 “I love gluing the feathers down.” — L.C.
💬 “I am helping Birdie feel safe.” — W.A.

A big thank you to Deb and Jennie for sharing this special experience with us and helping bring the book to life! 📖✨

Our hearts are with the family and friends of those whose lives have been so tragically affected by last night’s events.

We know that news like this can have a profound impact on our town and on many of the families we care for. During times like these we stand together as a community with compassion kindness and hope.

Our educators have spoken together about age appropriate ways to support children who may have questions or concerns.
We will continue to provide a calm and safe environment where children feel secure, listened to and reassured.

If you are your family are finding this difficult and would like someone to talk to please don’t hesitate to reach out to someone you trust or seek support.
If you need support, please contact Lifeline Australia on 13 11 14 or visit their website.

Looking after one another is more important than ever.

We also extend our gratitude to the first responders and Emergency Services through this heartbreaking incident. Your courage, professionalism and care for our community are appreciated.

Please continue to keep everyone affected in your thoughts and prayers.

💛❤️🖤 Celebrating NAIDOC Week 🖤❤️💛

This NAIDOC Week (5–12 July), our children, educators, and families came together to celebrate and learn through a collaborative art experience inspired by the Dreaming story “How the Birds Got Their Colours”.

Each of our rooms decorated a different part of our bird—its wings, head, or tail. The bird's body was displayed in our foyer, where families were invited to add their own special touches throughout the week.

It was wonderful to see our community come together to create an artwork that reflects the importance of connection, storytelling, creativity, and celebrating the rich cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Thank you to all of our wonderful families for helping make this meaningful project so special.

Who’s taking out State of Origin tonight? We asked the children for their predictions, and let’s just say they had plenty of confidence. Watch to see who they’re backing and whether their picks come true!

Slow pedagogy is about slowing down the pace of learning so children have time to explore, think, and lead their own play.

Instead of rushing through experiences or focusing on getting things “done,” educators take time to observe, listen, and respond to children’s ideas in meaningful ways.

It looks like children being deeply engaged in play, revisiting their learning, making choices, and having time to figure things out at their own pace.

Slow pedagogy helps children build stronger thinking skills, confidence, and relationships because learning is not rushed—it is valued and understood.

In our service, we believe: when we slow down, children learn more deeply.
