Playing with oobleck! 🩷

The children helped mix water, colour, and cornflour to create this fascinating, gooey substance—using their hands to explore how it changes between solid and liquid.

Playing with ooblek offers significant benefits for children, including sensory stimulation, fine motor development and early STEM learning. As a sensory experience it acts as a calming tool to help children reduce stress, focus energy, and express emotions. Its unique texture encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and creative, open-ended play.

We’ve been working together to create a magical fairy garden 🌿

The children have explored the space with curiosity and imagination, engaging in rich role play and storytelling. They have collaborated, shared ideas, and added even more detail to their enchanting world.

There were creative additions like fairy doors, fabric decorations high in the branches, handmade “people” crafted from natural materials, and even “heart signs” placed around the garden to show love for the fairies.

The children are demonstrating curiosity, creativity and problem-solving while collaboratively designing the fairy garden. They are using language and storytelling to share ideas and extend their imaginative play (EYLF v2)

Coo-ee Lemon Myrtle Muffins

We baked muffins using fresh lemon myrtle from our garden, getting ready for our bushwalks 🌿

The children helped pick, wash, and prepare the leaves, exploring their fresh citrus scent before taking turns crushing them with a mortar and pestle. They followed along with the recipe, adding ingredients, mixing, and watching the batter go into the muffin trays ready for baking. There was lots of excitement knowing they’ll soon enjoy their muffins on their bushwalk adventures.

Baking together supports fine motor skills, early maths and literacy, creativity, and confidence. It’s also a wonderful way to encourage healthy habits, teamwork, and an appreciation for using fresh ingredients grown in our own garden.

We were lucky to have Aunty Steff visit and share insights into Aboriginal culture, beliefs, and traditions. She showed how ochre—a natural earth pigment—has been used for thousands of years in body paint, art, and ceremonies, with each color holding special meaning.

The children explored ochre themselves, creating paint and decorating their bodies, before celebrating with Aboriginal animal dances inspired by emus, kangaroos, wombats, snakes, and eagles. It was a meaningful experience that helped deepen their appreciation for Indigenous knowledge, creativity, and connection to Country.

Our first big bush adventure of the year was a hit with our enthusiastic bushwalking explorers. A bright, sunny day provided the perfect backdrop for our outing.

From the moment we stepped outside, the children were captivated by the beauty of the natural world around them. It was wonderful to see their genuine appreciation for their surroundings. On our journey on Awabakal land, we encountered a variety of flora, including striking banksias, heart-shaped camellia petals, delicate white ground-cover flowers, moss and long twisting vines that resembled snakes winding up trees. A large autumn tree scattered leaves across the ground, and of course, we couldn’t resist running through them and stomping on them to create that satisfying crunch.

We also noticed signs of wildlife throughout the bush, such as leaves nibbled by a leaf-cutter bee, ant holes, and intricate spider webs. Collecting feathers was also very interesting and exciting. The children used all their senses as they explored, especially listening closely to the warbling magpies and the gentle flow of the creek.

Fostering a love of the natural world early on helps build respect, curiosity, and a lifelong sense of responsibility for the environment.

“A child who spends time in nature is more likely to grow into an adult who values and protects it.” David Attenborough
