Mount View High School

Mount View High School Mount View High School's official page Mount View High School began in 1985 as a fully demountable school and entered permanent buildings in 1991.

It serves the Cessnock community living to the west of Vincent Street and the villages to the north and west of Cessnock. Modern buildings and a tree-studded, hillside site make for a very pleasant physical environment for students and staff. A central role of the school is to help the students through the period of change which engulfs the community as it undergoes transition from a mining commun

ity to one dependent on the wine industry and associated tourist developments. Courses in hospitality, tourism and viticulture are offered to students as the beginning points in possible future careers in these industries. Links with local industry and training institutions are also being developed to create opportunities in these areas. A key goal for the school is to lift motivation and student aspirations to improve academic achievement and readiness for work in our students. Investigation and research is currently being undertaken with Cessnock and Kurri Kurri High Schools to explore whether a restructuring of secondary education within the Cessnock-Kurri areas offers better opportunities and outcomes for the students of the district.

⚡🔧 Kick-starting apprenticeship pathways!
Fifteen students from Muswellbrook High School, Cessnock High School, Mount View High School, Kurri Kurri High School and Dungog High School recently took part in the Upper Hunter Headstart Electrotechnology Pre-Apprenticeship Program.
Delivered by HunterNet Career Connections at MAJOR Training, the program provided students with hands-on experience, practical industry skills and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications in Electrotechnology.
Students successfully completed training in:
🔹 Work health and safety in the workplace
🔹 Fabricating, assembling and dismantling utilities industry components
🔹 Fixing and securing electrotechnology equipment
A huge congratulations to all 15 students on their commitment and achievement. MAJOR Training even commented that this group was the best group they have ever had! 👏
But the learning doesn’t stop there! Students will continue their industry immersion this week with visits to Hedweld and AGL, followed by the Omnia Wheel experience.
A big thank you to Ruby from HunterNet and all of the Careers Advisers who worked hard to get students organised and make this fantastic EPP opportunity possible.
It’s been an incredible opportunity for students to build skills, gain qualifications, experience industry and take another step towards future apprenticeship pathways

A team of students from KuNarr recently travelled to Rutherford to compete in the Inclusive School Sport Ten Pin Bowling Competition, facing off against high schools from across the Hunter Valley. With some impressive strikes and spares, our team achieved great scores! Beyond the game, the students showed amazing sportsmanship—encouraging each other and cheering on other schools.

While we await the final results, the boys should be commended for representing MVHS with integrity and pride. Well done, team!
