Year One Science Excursion

On Thursday, the Year One students visited the Awabakal Environmental Education Centre and investigated the ways that different places in the environment provide for the needs of living things. They were involved in a range of activities including bushwalking, dip netting and completing a leaf litter invertebrate survey.

The students enjoyed the opportunity to be outdoors, explore the natural surroundings and learn about how Aboriginal peoples used the environment to meet their needs.

Supporting Serve Newy

Last week, students from Middle and Senior School had the opportunity to enjoy pizza and slushies while watching plenty of dunk tank fun. This lunchtime fundraiser was organised to support our upcoming service-learning trip, Serve Newy, taking place in Newcastle from July 6 to 10.

Students enjoyed taking part in our Wellbeing Wednesday last week. With assignments and projects keeping everyone busy, it was a great opportunity to pause, step away from the usual routine, and spend time connecting with one another.

The Wellbeing Team organised a range of fun activities in the playground, giving students the chance to get involved, relax, and enjoy some meaningful conversations.

A big thank you to our Wellbeing Team and all staff who helped make the day such a success. It’s these small moments that can make a big difference.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
As National Reconciliation Week comes to a close, we reflect on this year’s theme, “All In,” and the role each of us plays in building understanding, respect and unity.

We are incredibly proud of Ila, who represented St Philip’s Christian College Cessnock at Cessnock City Council's "All In" Community Event.

Ila spoke with confidence, contributing meaningfully to an important conversation about reconciliation in our community.

Her voice reminds us that reconciliation is not just a moment, but a shared commitment to listen, to learn, and to ensure everyone feels included, respected and valued.

Well done, Ila!

Bush Tucker Garden

Students had a fantastic time working alongside Aunty Tracey and the incredible ladies from Kiray Putjung Aboriginal Corporation to plant new additions to our Bush Tucker Garden.

Throughout the day, students learnt valuable new skills and deepened their understanding of both traditional and contemporary uses of native plants. These plants will become an important part of our learning, with students using them in future Science lessons and cooking with them in Food Technology.

It was also a special opportunity to build strong connections with each other and with community in a hands-on and meaningful way.

We are so grateful to Kiray Putjung Aboriginal Corporation for their collaboration, generosity in sharing knowledge and culture, and ongoing support of our school. We can’t thank them enough for partnering with us to create such rich learning experiences for our students.

We can’t wait to watch our garden grow!
