AUSiMED is delighted to welcome Israeli Dr Naama Pines-Shwartz to Australia. Naama, a senior paediatric emergency medicine physician, will participate in the International Medical Toxicology Fellowship the Austin Hospital, gaining skills urgently needed in Israel, where toxicology specialists are few and no local training programs exist. This Fellowship is supported by AUSiMED, the Lowy Foundation and Hadassah Australia.

AUSiMED proudly celebrates Dr Gleb Kornev’s recent completion of his Melanoma Fellowship at Peter Mac. Gleb is now establishing a new Melanoma and Skin Cancer Unit at Shaari Zedek in Jerusalem. Thank you to AUSiMED's donors and to Prof Shahneen Sandhu and the Peter Mac team who made this impact possible.

We're very happy to welcome Dr Freda Werdiger to the AUSiMED Medical Science Review Board (MSRB). Freda is a Physicist and Biostatistician. Her expertise includes X-Ray Physics, Medical Imaging, Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, and Clinical Trials.
We look forward to Freda’s contribution to the MSRB, helping to ensure that AUSiMED continues to support the highest-quality Australia-Israel medical research collaborations.

AUSiMED is delighted to welcome oncologist Dr Gleb Kornev to Australia for a melanoma fellowship at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. This training, supported by our donor community, will prepare Gleb to develop and lead a clinical and research program in melanoma care in Israel. In early Feb 2025, AUSiMED celebrated its 10-year milestone. At the heart of the celebration was the recognition of the Lowy family’s unwavering support for the AUSiMED Lowy Paediatric Fellowships Program. Guest speaker Hon Greg Hunt lauded the Lowy family’s contributions beyond the medical field and underscored the crucial need to combat terrorism and antisemitism while strengthening Australia-Israel ties through impactful medical collaborations. We were delighted to launch the 2024 AUSiMED Speaker Series last week in Sydney. Participants heard a fascinating talk from AUSiMED's Lowy Paediatric Fellow, Dr Ophir Bar-On, about the child hostages who were released from captivity in late 2023 being cared for at Schneider Children's Medical Center and about Ophir's pulmonology collaboration with Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.

AUSiMED is delighted to congratulate Prof Sally Dunwoodie on her 2024 Australia Day Honour.
In 2019, Prof Dunwoodie hosted a 12-month AUSiMED-funded Research Fellowship for Israel paediatrician, Dr Moran Almog in her lab at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI). Under Prof Dunwoodie’s guidance, Moran worked with world-class researchers unravelling the genetic basis for congenital heart disease. This training equipped Moran to advance the area of cardio-genetics in Israel.

AUSiMED is delighted to congratulate Prof Julie Leask on her 2024 Australia Day Honour.
In 2022, Prof Leask joined the AUSiMED delegation of Australian Public Health experts to Israel led by Prof Sharon Lewin AO. The 15-member delegation engaged with their Israeli counterparts in a rewarding exchange of learnings from the battle with COVID-19. https://www.ausimed.org/our-impact/
