We had an amazing time hosting alumni Andrew Nicolaou and Liam McGill (Class of 2020) who returned to share their inspiring entrepreneurial journey with our Year 10 Money & Markets and Year 11 Business Management classes.

Best friends since Year 9, they launched a cleaning business together just over a year ago, combining their different backgrounds in nursing, banking, and finance. Andrew and Liam discussed the challenges theyโ€™ve faced, importance of teamwork, decision-making, and how networking and social media have helped grow their business.

Our students were fully engaged and inspired by their stories โ€” a big appreciation to these alumni for giving back to their school community and encouraging the next generation of entrepreneurs!

Thank you Andrew and Liam! ๐Ÿงผ๐Ÿ™Œ

Alumni Author Success! ๐Ÿ“š

We are excited to share that alum Corey Tusak, (peer year 2022), has recently published his debut novel, Hylenia: The Great Prophecy, through the international publishing company, Austin Macauley.

Coreyโ€™s passion for writing has stemmed from his school years, drawing inspiration from his diverse travels across the globe. His experiences have shaped the compelling storytelling in his young adult fantasy novel.

Corey has generously donated a copy of Hylenia: The Great Prophecy to our school library, allowing both students and staff to explore his creation.

For a sneak peek, here's the blurb:

Last night, Zoe Markopoulos (Class of 2020) spoke at our End-of-Year Presentation Night and presented community-focused awards to students.๐ŸŒŸ

The day after completing her final Year 12 exam, Zoe began working as a full-time construction labourer and is now undertaking an apprenticeship in carpentry.๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™€๏ธ

In her speech, Zoe reflected on how her time at school was instrumental in developing the essential skills needed to enter the workforce. While she graduated Year 12 and achieved an ATAR, Zoe revealed that it is not always the academic content she relies on in her career. Instead, she often draws on the core values instilled in her at GECโ€”care and respect, equity and integrity, and growth and striving.

She emphasised that school is a unique environment where you can lean on and learn from those around you every day. Zoe encouraged students to cherish the relationships they build at school, as these connections can bring immense value to their personal and professional lives.

Thank you for giving back to GEC in this way Zoe!
