Castle Hill Art Society promoting, encouraging and facilitating the practice of the visual arts in the Hills District of Sydney Australia

The society was established in 1967, with the idea of promoting, encouraging and facilitating the practice of the visual arts in the Hills District of Sydney. Classes and workshops in all media are held for adults, also after-school and Saturday morning classes for children. Activities include classes, painting groups, portrait and life-drawing groups, en plein air painting days, bus trips, painti

ng holidays, and other social activities. Society’s two major exhibitions every year are the Art Award section in the Castle Hill Agricultural Show, usually held in or around March, and the Orange Blossom Festival Annual Art Awards, held in September. We also have Mother's Day and Christmas exhibitions of members' works.

Watercolour is Dee’s great love – “it lends itself to the softness and curves of the human form and allows me great freedom”. Come and learn Dee’s technique of how to create life-like portraits. Dee has spent several years living in Southern Africa and New Zealand.

Come and learn Robert Dujin’s technique to bring light and interest to still life paintings.
Robert can turn his hand to still life, portraits, life drawing and landscapes and is very well known for his sensitive portrayals of local subjects around Mosman with scenes such as harbour views, beach, and bush.

Josefia is an experienced watercolour tutor and she is drawn to painting landscapes by exploring mood, colour and composition. Her paintings draw inspiration from the natural surroundings in Sydney, its harbours, and the rural landscapes found on her trips.

Janelle Hatherly will give a talk and demonstration on two useful techniques for simplifying the process of painting portraits in oils: the limited palette using only four colours as createdby Anders Zorn, and the Asaro Head: a useful 3D model for understanding overall planes of
