Two educators.

Two mums.

Two children starting Kindergarten.

Two completely different readiness journeys.

Before Evie started school, I knew she could write her name, count, and separate from me confidently.

Bianca knew Kai could read simple words, count to 100, and follow instructions.

But what we focused on in that year before school looked completely different.

Because school readiness isn’t about ticking off a checklist.

It’s not about comparing your child to the child next door.

It’s about understanding your child’s strengths, recognising where they need support, and helping them build the skills THEY need next.

For some children, that’s confidence.

For some, it’s communication.

For others, it’s emotional regulation, friendships, independence, fine motor skills, or learning how to ask for help.

Every child starts from a different place.

And that’s exactly why no two readiness journeys should look the same.

🐞 Create an insect.

Using our favourite Six Bricks as inspiration, along with a collection of loose parts and craft materials, the children set about designing their own insects for our Letter I week.

No templates.
No examples.
No right or wrong answers.

Every creation was completely different.

While the children thought they were crafting, they were developing fine motor skills, creativity, problem-solving and confidence as they planned, built and created.

At Prep For School, we love open-ended experiences that encourage children to think, imagine and create in their own unique way.

And honestly, watching their ideas come to life was our favourite part. ❤️

Most people think handwriting starts with tracing letters.

It doesn’t.

At Prep For School, you’ll often see our children cutting, building, creating, exploring and yes... sometimes making a very big mess.

These experiences help develop the foundational skills needed for writing, including fine motor control, visual tracking and motor planning.

Alongside these hands-on experiences, we use the Casey Caterpillar program - a fun and engaging pre-handwriting and handwriting program that helps children learn the shapes, patterns and movements that eventually come together to form letters.

Together, play-based experiences and explicit handwriting instruction create a powerful foundation for future writing success.

Because the best handwriting programs don’t always look like handwriting. 💚

Hours of preparation and moments of wonder.

Next week we’re diving into Science Weeks and exploring the letter I.

We can’t wait to see where their curiosity takes them. 🤍

A huge thankyou to Miss Hope who put these stations together for us!! 👏🏻

From one mum to another ❤️

This photo was taken on my daughter's first day of Kindergarten.

I've now experienced the transition to school twice as a mum.

And if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that a strong transition matters so much.

Not just for our children.

For us, too.

With my son, we didn't have the opportunity to experience a transition program before school started.

We walked into Kindergarten together and learned as we went. While he got there in the end, those early days felt hard. There were tears, worries and moments where I wondered whether he truly felt ready.

With my daughter, our experience was completely different.

She had the opportunity to build confidence, independence, friendships and familiarity before Kindergarten began.

By the time her first day arrived, school wasn't a big unknown.

And as a mum, that changed everything.

I stood at the school gate knowing she would be okay.

That feeling is something I wish every parent could have.

It's one of the reasons Prep For School means so much to me.

Every child who walks through our doors is treated the way I would want my own children to be treated. Every activity, every routine and every little success is built around the things I wished for as a parent.

Because behind every child preparing for Kindergarten is a parent hoping their little person will thrive.

And having experienced both journeys, I know how much a strong start can change everything.

Term 2 is filling quickly 🤍

What started as a little dream has grown into the most beautiful community, and we are so grateful for every family who chooses to be part of Prep For School.

Many of our sessions are now full or down to their final places for the year.

Watching these little people grow in confidence, friendships and independence is something we never take for granted.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us for 2026, now is the perfect time to secure your place (especially before the Term 3 rush).

If your preferred day is currently full, we also offer a waitlist option - and for families not quite ready yet, a beautiful “growing into it” pathway for children joining us in the coming years 🌿

We can’t wait to continue learning, growing & playing together ✨

A little honest moment from me 🤍

Running Prep For School is the most beautiful, exhausting, rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

To every family, friend, staff member and supporter who has helped build this little dream into what it is today - thank you.

I have the best job in the world.

Hi, my name is Brooke (Miss Brooke to some) 🤍

I’m the one you speak to on the phone when you enrol your child…
and chances are, I’m the one teaching them too.

And even if I’m not their teacher, I will still know everything about them -
what makes them laugh, what they find tricky, and what makes them shine.

I am the founder and teacher of Prep For School.
But like most small business owners, I wear many hats -
teacher, accountant (yuck), cleaner, social media creator… and biggest cheerleader for your little people.

Every morning, I wake up and go to work absolutely loving what I do.
Not because it’s easy, but because it matters.

I believe prep should feel like magic.
Fun. Safe. Individualised.
A place where every child feels valued, where they belong, and where they are excited to learn.

Because preparing for school is so much more than letters and numbers.
It’s confidence.
It’s friendships.
It’s independence.
It’s believing in yourself.

Prep For School began when my youngest was just 6 months old.
It started in my garage, with 9 little children and a very big dream.

Today, that dream has grown - but the heart behind it has never changed.

I’m also a mum to three beautiful children, and I know what it feels like to trust someone with your world.

And that is something I never take for granted.

This isn’t just my business.
It’s my purpose.

And there is truly no place I’d rather be than right here, helping your children take their first steps into school and beyond ☀️
