💛 Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day! 💛

Today we celebrate our incredible team of educators and recognise the heart, care and dedication you bring to our centre every single day.

Being an early childhood educator is so much more than a job. You are the comforting arms when a child needs reassurance, the encouraging voice when they are learning something new, the smiling face that welcomes them each morning, and the safe person they know they can turn to.

You celebrate the little moments that are actually the big moments. 🌱
The big steps. The new words. The friendships forming. The confidence growing. The cuddles, the giggles, the messy play, the big emotions and all the wonderful learning in between.

Thank you for the patience you show, the relationships you build and the countless ways you make every child feel safe, valued, included and loved.

To our amazing team, please know that the work you do matters. The relationships and memories you create with children and families can last a lifetime.

Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

🐻🌿 We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!

Our children have been invited to step into the much-loved story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt through this engaging small-world play experience.

Using familiar characters, natural environments and sensory resources, children can retell the story, explore their imagination and build early literacy and communication skills through play. 📚✨

🔬🌈 National Science Week! 🧪✨

Our little scientists have been busy exploring, experimenting and discovering during National Science Week!

Through hands-on experiences including colour mixing, walking water and exciting science experiments, the children explored cause and effect, made observations and watched with curiosity as colours changed and moved.

These experiences encourage children to ask questions, make predictions and develop an early love of science through play and discovery. 💙💛❤️

🎨🌈 Rolling into Creativity!

Our children explored colour, movement and creativity through a fun marble painting experience. By rolling marbles through bright paint, they watched colourful patterns appear as the marbles travelled across the paper.

This hands-on experience encouraged children to experiment, make predictions and strengthen their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills, all while discovering that every artwork is beautifully unique.

Learning through play is full of colourful surprises! 💛💗💜

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills

🖤💛❤️ Celebrating NAIDOC Week 💙💚

Throughout NAIDOC Week, our children explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through storytelling, loose parts play, sensory experiences and open-ended invitations to learn. These experiences encouraged curiosity, respect and meaningful conversations about Country, culture and community.

By engaging with First Nations perspectives through play, we are supporting children to develop a deeper appreciation for the rich histories, cultures and continuing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
