Art / Play

When children are allowed the freedom to create without 'perfection' a new world is opened to them.

Too often adults expect masterpiecing, perfection, elitism and measurement. Even in after school art classes.

It is crucial for children to have the creative freedom to make mistakes and experiment without judgement.

Not every thing has to be exhibition worthy, stuck on the fridge worthy or share with grandparent worthy. Art is not perfect and it never will be. Art is a process.

That is what makes making art special and wonderful.

Now its time to look at warm colours!
This side of the colour wheel creates a sense of proximity, energy, and happiness. They are vivid focal colours that grab attention and evoke emotions like love or comfort. Warm colours suggest in an artwork heat and light.

Let's start the year with basic colour theory. Colour is infinite - it goes on forever and can be taught and explored forever. At Art Fusion we break elements of art right down to the very very basics and....mixing our own colours is a must!

Students in this group are aged from 5years - and aren't to be underestimated. Children at 5 years are very very capable and so open minded to learn.

Art Fusion at .grammar.school Park Campus first class / Introducing Your Inner Artist with the artist inspiration from Joan Miro.

Spanish artist, born into a family goldsmiths and watchmakers in Barcelona 1893, who attended both business school and art school and explored artistic expressions in the 20s and 30s.

Miro's work automatically encourages children to explore their creativity and imagination with his wonderful playfulness and movement. His colours were vibrant and bright and he used lively shapes and interesting lines fill of pattern, making his artwork visually pleasing for us to enjoy.

Who couldn't be enthused with a painter who titled some of his work 'Birth of The World'… 'Blue Star Painting'… and 'Harlequin's Carnival' - pictured.

Look out for an artist study of Alberto Giocometti this term at .grammar.school Co-Currics classes with Lauren.

We will be looking at Giocometti's long and almost alien human sculptures he created post WW2 and making our own self portrait sculpture, inspired by him, but in our own way.

What an incredible artist!

Study / Giorgio Morandi's Still Life
Medium/ Gouache

Gouache Paint/ versatile, water-based paint. It is rich, velvety, vibrant and matte. Goes on like watercolour but is opague like acrylic without the plastic feel. It can be reactivated on the paper and worked on again.

Giorgio Morandi (July 20, 1890 – June 18, 1964) was an Italian painter and printmaker who specialised in still life. His paintings are noted for their tonal subtlety and muted palette. His objects were mainly limited to simple subjects like vases, bottles, bowls, flowers and landscapes. He was even known to rarely change the vessels he painted, using them over and over again in his work.

What mentor Lauren finds intriguing is that he was a minimalist / which is very rare. Lauren has never met a minimalist artist yet! Google 'Morandi's studio' and see for yourself! He also rarely ever left his studio - he was happy alone, indoors and painting.

Morandi was mentioned to be one of the best 20th century Italian painters so we just had to have a go of creating our own works that were inspired by him.

We love how each student is different and the bold outlines that gives the illusion of shadow and space.
