We are seeking Expressions of Interest for:
Early Childhood Teaching Positions, 2027

Nipakawa Steiner School is a brand-new initiative, located in the beautiful Southern Beaches of Lutruwita, Tasmania. Nipakawa means ‘wave’ in the Palawa Kani aboriginal language, which describes our wide-open skies, coastal location and surfing community as well as the rhythm and flow of our educational approach.

Nipakawa opened its doors this year with a combined Kinder/Prep and a Class 1. We plan to expand our early childhood centre and create a strong foundation for the future growth of the school. Due to very strong demand in the early years, we are looking to create several new roles.

Prep Teacher 1.0
Kindy Teacher 0.6

✨ Book Nook is Open 3-3.30pm

During Book Week, we opened our Book Nook, a cosy space to sit and read or borrow a book. Steiner alumni, Freya and Zahra, volunteered to paint and decorate the space.

Families are welcome from 3-3.30pm after school and can borrow a book on a trust basis, by writing their name in the Borrowing Book.
Please come and visit this special corner of the school!

High quality books from Lyrebird Steiner shop were generously donated by parents and grandparents. Karin Adams from Lyrebird donated over 20 books and Barbara Whitebear donated 10. Many parents chose to donate a book in their child’s name from the stacks of books on the shelf.

There are still more books to choose from in the Front Office, should you wish to donate one.

In the primary years, where ‘feeling’ predominates, handwork provides the inspiration for transforming learning into artistic experience. Through beauty, colour and form, handwork helps to lead the child from play to imaginative thinking as adults. Their hands play an important part in this awakening by connecting the child to their world through the senses.

Our hands and fingers have the skill,
To make a thing and do it well.
Our head to tell us what to do,
Our heart to choose the shape and hue.
Our hands, our head, our heart, all three,
Our thanks to You who gave them to me.

Using wool from sheep and timber from trees children learn value, appreciation and connection to their environment. From creative play in kindergarten, there is a step by step building up of practise, learning and work. Handwork lessons have a strong rhythm, with verse, movement, songs, rhymes and stories supporting each project.

🐚 Welcome Class One!

At the start or Term 3, the new Class One parents and their class children and siblings met in our new classroom! It was an opportunity to meet each other, explore the grounds and introduce Beck, our Indonesian teacher & Renee our woodwork, outdoor craft and gardening teacher. The cohesion within the group was immediately evident as they worked earnestly and cooperatively to complete a ‘snow scene’, with treasures from nature and modelling wax.

Now a few weeks into their first term, we are reminded of the wisdom of the Steiner Curriculum, it is magical in the way it truly meets the developmental stage of the children in such an engaging and artistic way. As the students are nourished so is the teacher, and this flows out into the community.

✨ Buy a Book for the Book Nook ✨

As our little school grows, we are hoping to add many beautiful quality books to our Book Nook, in the Hall. You can help by purchasing a book from the selection of Steiner Waldorf books in the Front Office. Once you have made a direct deposit or cash payment, your chosen book will be stamped with the name of your child (or your family) and will be cherished in our library for years to come.

Help us to celebrate Book Week (Aug 22-28) by donating a book to Nipakawa.
