Science Week 2026! 👩‍🔬🔬🧬🧑‍🔬

This year’s theme, “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Science for All”, is already coming to life across our centre!

Our Toddlers have transformed their room into a dinosaur park 🦖 (at their request!), Kindy 1 are busy exploring all things space 🚀, and Kindy 2 have been busy with experiments and investigations 🥼🧪

We’re only two days into the week and already so much has happened! Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to so far - with plenty more fun still to come 🎉

Water play is always a winner in our Toddler room! ✨

Give our 2-3 year olds some containers, ice cube trays and a few sea creatures to hunt for, and they’ll happily pour, tip and splash for as long as you let them.

This bird’s eye view shows just how absorbed they get, building concentration and fine motor skills, all while having fun 🤩

Strong relationships are the foundation for confident, curious learners 💛

Goodstart’s key educator approach ensures every child is known, supported and feels safe - through consistent, nurturing connections with educators and meaningful partnerships with families. These bonds help build wellbeing, resilience and a true sense of belonging from day one.

PJ Day 2026 💤🌙

Last Friday, our centre rolled out of bed and into our comfiest pjs for The Pyjama Foundation’s 2026 National Pyjama Day to support children in foster care 🧸💛

And WOW, our families showed up… our centre raised a massive $438.60!! 🎉
Thank you to everyone who donated online and in the centre - your generosity is hugely appreciated.

We’re almost at our $500 goal - just $61.40 to go! If you missed the chance to donate last week, there’s still time to do so through our link.

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

National Pyjama Day! 💤🌙

On Friday the 24th of July, we’re inviting all of our little ones to come dressed in their comfiest pyjamas for a gold coin donation.

We’re raising money for The Pyjama Foundation who support children in foster care - and this year we’re aiming to donate $500! 💛

Want to help us reach our goal? Our fundraising page is open to families and the community: https://fundraise.thepyjamafoundation.com/fundraisers/lhakizangmo/npd

We can’t wait to see everyone’s PJs!

Reconciliation Week - Sea of Hearts Movement ❤️

As part of National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June), we invited our families to take part in the Sea of Hearts Movements, decorating hearts using recycled materials.

Thank you to all of our families who took part. It’s been lovely to see as we come through the centre entrance everyday ☀️

Over the weekend, our Centre Director Carmen collected a selection of Jirdarup Wildflowers through the Town of Victoria Park’s Urban Forest at Home program. The program is a lovely council initiative that helps increase local tree canopy and supports native biodiversity. 🦋🌿☀️🌱

We’ve planted all six species in our garden and are excited to watch them grow. Keep an eye out as they start to sprout and bring more colour and wildlife into our outdoor space. 🌸🌸🌸
