The collapsed wrist or “playing under the piano” is common in beginner pianists. In my experience, students feel their hand is so high above the piano when their form is first corrected even though their arm is straight.
A common phrase I tell them is “the piano does not play you, you play the piano”, so get on top of it!
The children find it so much easier to control every note in most styles with combined technical knowledge to produce beautiful music.
What I love about teaching is seeing them so proud of themselves and happy after accomplishing wonderful sound ❤️

Here is some fun previews of one of Rays HSC performance pieces that he is preparing. Ray learnt this huge piece on his own! Together we worked on the right hand arpeggio rhythm and technique, clean key changes, steady tempo and bringing out the melody in chordal sections. Wishing Ray the best on the big day!! He will do incredible!

It is so good to be back teaching after maternity leave! Ray has been working towards his HSC tackling this film piece and learning it all on his own. He has done incredible work with it! What a lovely start to the piano year! Most of the students are (with safety and caution) back to face to face lessons and some still doing online lessons. They have all clearly been doing amazing work over the holiday break! I hope you have had as festive a season as Bambi has for all those still to return to lessons next week!
