Thank you to our amazing helpers for our wrapping afternoon yesterday and to all our families for the extremely generous toy and book donations for the Sutherland Children’s hospital. We lost count of how many gifts we were able to wrap up and know the children and families receiving them will be especially happy at Christmas time🎄🎁🌟

Special mention to our superstar parent organiser Anna, who organised the whole toy drive and dropped all the gifts off for us this morning ❤️

All donations of brand new items - Toys and Books for children ages 1-6 years, will be collected in the office or please give them to an educator.

There will be a wrapping afternoon on Tuesday 28th November starting at 4pm - 5:30pm. We would love if any parent helpers can assist for an hour or so 🤗

Yesterday we were presented with a beautiful artwork created by Wayne who is a local Aboriginal artist. Wayne collaborated with the Educators and Children to come up with an idea to connect our centre and the Dharawal country we live on.

You can see the beautiful details of the artwork including the burri burri (whale) which is the local totem of the Dharawal country.

The pink shell representing the place of Cronulla, also known as Kurranulla.

The blue and white dots represent the ocean and local poddy mullet.

The fish and jelly fish are sea creatures in the ocean.

The ochre dots are the land, and the grey dots with white dots represent meeting places.

The children had many questions for Wayne, and practiced pronouncing some aboriginal words together.

To signify unity, the children took turns to paint their handprints on paper with Wayne.

We would love to welcome our new member of the Kid’n Around family - Seaweed, the goldfish 🧡

The children have loved taking care of Seaweed, watching him swim around in his tank and curious to learn all about him.

Swipe 👉 to see some beautiful paintings of Seaweed 🧡

We were very honoured to have our ‘Push the Limit’ incursion with Shannon on Monday.

Shannon’s incursion was about teaching children that anyone can achieve a goal, sport or career no matter what their disability or capabilities are and showed them photos to prove it.

Shannon had a variety of activities for the children to explore to give them an understand of how people that are visually impaired or in a wheelchair see and experience the world.

Shannon gave out special glasses for the children to wear and they had to find pictures in a book. The children were put in pairs and gave Shannon gave one of them a blind fold and the other had to lead them around the yard. Shannon also handed out some braille for them to feel with their blind folds on and explained this is how people who are visually impaired see and learn.

At the end all the children all took turns racing each other in the wheelchairs 🦽

Kid’n Around’s Biggest Morning tea! 🧁🍪

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is a community event that raises vital funds to make a big difference for those impacted by cancer.

At kid’n Around, we had to contribute to this amazing cause. Each of the educators brought in something to share for the morning tea and raised much needed funds to support families, friends and those going through treatments. 🩵💛

🌈♻️We love having incursions from Energetic minds! This month’s incursion was called Old MacDonald and the great barnyard, an environmental sustainability performance. The presenter used stories, music, dance and experiments to deliver the message about Environmental care, Animal wellbeing and treatment, Recycling and planet conservation.
The children were encouraged to think of ways to conserve water, one of the children said “We can save water by turning the tap off when we are brushing out teeth”.
The children also shared ways we can protect the environment; some ideas were recycling plastic bags and recycling cans and bottles. This was a great experience and has provided many great learning opportunities which the educators will continue to explore with the children. 🌈♻️

👮‍♂️🚔🚨 We had the police visit Kid’n Around! Constable Blacka came in to teach the children about safety and how police officers help protect us and our community. Constable Blacka showed the children what he carriers with him each day - handcuffs, spray, radio and a gun and explained what each of them are used for. He also discussed road safety and who is someone we can trust and help keep us safe. Constable Blacka taught the children some words/actions to say when someone is making them feel uncomfortable - STOP, GO and TELL. The children also got to see his police car and sirens 👮‍♂️🚔🚨

🚒🔥 Kid’n Around has had some very special visitors this month, fire fighters from Cronulla fire station came to share some important messages about fire safety with us. The children got to see the special boots the firefighters wear, protective uniform, torch, helmet, gloves and oxygen masks used to breath with when it’s Smokey. The children listened carefully to the fire fighters telling them to go to them if ever in an emergency, a fire or need help. The firefighters taught the children, if there was a real fire to “Drop down low and Go, Go, Go”. They then set up a smoke tent and everyone practised crawling underneath chanting these words.
Everyone was taught that once outside that the safest place to assemble is by the letter box.
We waved goodbye to the fire truck and watched as the lights flashed. 🚒🔥
