The majority of our silkworms have now cocooned, and the excitement in our Springwood kindergarten is building! The children have been eagerly checking on them each day and are fascinated by the changes they have observed throughout the silkworm life cycle.

Now we wait patiently for our moths to emerge from their cocoons. This has been a wonderful hands-on learning experience, helping the children develop an understanding of growth, change, and the wonders of nature.

We can't wait to see what happens next!

The Springwood Kindy Team are incredibly grateful to be part of such a supportive and encouraging community. Over recent weeks, we have loved sharing the many learning experiences, investigations, and adventures happening at kindy, and we have been touched by the wonderful feedback from families.

Hearing comments such as "Thank you for providing such a wide range of learning experiences for our children" and "Thank you for another wonderful week for our children. We are grateful for all the work you do" reminds our team why we are so passionate about early childhood education.

From science experiments and sports programs to nature-based learning, special visitors, and creative projects, every experience is carefully planned to spark curiosity, build confidence, and create joyful learning opportunities for the children.

Thank you for your ongoing support, encouragement, and partnership. Together, we are creating a nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

This week, the Springwood Kindy children were excited to harvest the parsley they have been helping to grow in our garden. Together, we picked the fresh parsley, bagged it up, and offered it to families to take home and enjoy in their cooking. It was a wonderful way for the children to see the rewards of caring for and nurturing plants.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Bunnings Loganholme for generously donating a collection of native, bee-friendly, and child-friendly plants for our nature space. These plants will help create a welcoming habitat for our new native stingless bee hive while providing children with opportunities to observe and learn about the important role bees play in our environment.

We can't wait to see our garden flourish and watch the bees visit the beautiful new plants in the weeks ahead!

A big thank you to Uniting Early Learning The Gap for generously sharing your silkworms with us! The Springwood Kindy children are incredibly excited to welcome our caterpillars and begin this fascinating learning journey.

Each day, the children have been helping to collect fresh mulberry leaves from our tree, ensuring our new visitors will have plenty to eat when they arrive. This has sparked lots of conversations about life cycles, growth, and how to care for living things.

We can't wait to watch the silkworms grow and change over the coming weeks and discover the amazing transformations that occur along the way. 🐛➡️🦋✨

This week, the Springwood Kindy children welcomed Bee Keeper Matilda from Teralba Bees to the service. Matilda brought along something very special, a hive of Australian Native Stingless Bees that will now call our service home!

The children were excited to learn all about our new tiny neighbours and listened carefully as Matilda explained that native stingless bees are gentle and cannot hurt us. She shared lots of fascinating facts about bees and answered the children's many curious questions.

One fun fact the children loved learning was that bees prefer the colours blue and purple, and they cannot see red!

We are looking forward to observing our bees as they come and go from the hive, helping to pollinate the plants throughout our garden. What a wonderful opportunity for the children to connect with nature and learn about the important role bees play in our environment!

This week, the Springwood Kindy children participated in a digital storytime hosted by the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, enjoying the story Patty the Potato and the Glitter Glitch.

Through Patty's adventure, the children explored important messages about using technology safely and responsibly. They discussed the importance of thinking before sharing online, talking to trusted adults, keeping personal information private, and understanding that our online actions can have real-life impacts.

The session provided a wonderful opportunity to begin developing digital citizenship skills in an engaging and age-appropriate way, helping children build the knowledge and confidence to navigate technology safely.

Each week, the Springwood Kindy children look forward to participating in the Jumping Jim’s sports program. Through a variety of fun and engaging games and activities, the children have opportunities to develop their gross motor skills, coordination, balance, and teamwork. 🌟

The sessions encourage children to stay active, build confidence, follow instructions, and most importantly, have fun! We love seeing the children enthusiastically join in, challenge themselves, and celebrate their achievements each week. 😊

Throughout the year, we carefully gather the children's artwork and learning experiences, compiling them into individual portfolios. The children love revisiting their portfolios, looking back on their hard work, creativity, and the many skills they have developed along the way. 💛

These portfolios provide a wonderful opportunity for children to reflect on their learning journey, celebrate their achievements, and share special memories with their peers and educators.

To keep families connected to their child's learning, observations and learning stories are shared digitally, allowing families to engage with and celebrate their child's progress throughout the year. 📱✨

It's always a joy to see the pride on the children's faces as they explore all they have accomplished!
