A huge thank you to all of our wonderful families for your beautiful Educators’ Day wishes, kind words, thoughtful messages and gestures. It truly means so much to our team to feel so appreciated and supported. 🥰

Today is a special opportunity to celebrate the incredible educators who give so much of themselves each and every day to the little people in their car.

To our amazing team — thank you for your endless hard work, dedication, patience, compassion and commitment. Thank you for creating a safe, nurturing and welcoming environment where every child feels loved, valued and supported. 💕

Thank you for the little things that often go unnoticed — the extra cuddles, the comforting words, the messy play, the songs, the stories, the learning opportunities, the big smiles and the countless moments you spend helping our children grow and thrive.

Your role is so much more than caring for children. You are educators, role models, supporters, cheerleaders, comforters and a trusted part of each child’s village. 🫶

Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Today, we are incredibly proud to celebrate a very special milestone—25 years of service at Goodstart, all at the same centre! 🌟

For 25 years, Miss Annette has been a valued member of our Goodstart Almara Street family, making a lasting difference in the lives of countless children, families, and colleagues. Their passion, dedication, kindness, and commitment to providing high-quality early learning have helped shape generations of young learners within our community.

Over the years, Miss Annette has built meaningful relationships with families, supported children's learning and development, mentored fellow educators, and created a warm, welcoming environment where everyone feels they belong.

Reaching 25 years with the same centre is an extraordinary achievement and a true reflection of the passion and care they bring to their role every single day.

🚑 Community Engagement at Goodstart Almara Street ❤️

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome two of our wonderful community partners. Erin & Tahlia play an active role in our community from the Queensland Ambulance Service to spend time with our children and educators.

The visit provided a hands-on learning experience as children explored the role of paramedics, discovered some of the equipment used in an ambulance, and participated in an engaging safety discussion. They asked thoughtful questions, shared their own experiences, and learnt about the important role emergency services play in keeping our community safe. They also spoke about the safety and calling 000 when there is an emergency.

Experiences like these strengthen our connections with families and the wider community while supporting meaningful learning through real-life experiences.

How this experience supported the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF):

🌱 Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world:
Children developed an understanding of the important roles community members play and built a sense of belonging by connecting with a trusted community helper.

💙 Outcome 3 – Children have a strong sense of wellbeing:
Children learnt about personal safety, emergency services, and who they can turn to for help. These conversations promoted confidence, resilience, and a sense of security.

🧠 Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners:
Children demonstrated curiosity by asking questions, exploring new equipment, sharing ideas, and actively engaging in meaningful conversations that extended their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

A heartfelt thank you to the Queensland Amublance officers Erin & Tahlia for generously volunteering their time and sharing their expertise with our children and team. Partnerships with families enrich our curriculum and provide authentic learning experiences that create lasting memories and meaningful connections.

We love working together with our families and community to inspire confident, capable, and curious learners. 💙🚑

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.
