Canterbury Public School is a NSW government school teaching Kindergarten to Year 6 students. Our school serves a diverse community consisting of 380 students from 40 different cultural backgrounds. Local students are drawn from the suburbs of Canterbury and Hurlstone Park and a significant number of students attend the school from out of area. The school prides itself on being small enough to kno

w and value every student and family, yet large enough to provide a full range of quality learning programs and resources. The adjacent local high schools enable strong links and continuity of schooling. Rules of Engagement

The P&C are hosting a free community event to mark National Reconciliation Week this Friday after school with a screening of the Australian movie 'Kangaroo' in the school hall.

The theme for this year's Reconciliation Week is ALL IN, so all students and families are encouraged to join us to show support and solidarity for reconciliation.

ALL students must be accompanied by a parent or carer to attend the event.

Good morning everyone, we are the school captains at Canterbury Public School. As many of you know, today is National Sorry Day, a day where we apologise to the children who were taken from their families and suffered a lifetime of pain and loss.

28 years ago, National Sorry Day was first observed. It came after a national report called Bring them Home detailed the horrific impact of government policies that stole Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from their parents from the 1800s to the 1970s.

On February 13th, 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said the very first national Apology to the families of Stolen Generations for the very hard times they had to suffer through. This was a huge moment in Australian history because, after more than a century, someone finally apologised. After the Apology, the nation knew we needed to stand up and do what's right. Saying sorry was a start but we need to continuously be kind and equal to everyone.

Today we say Sorry and continue to help heal the harm that the Stolen Generations policies caused.

Deadly praise for our talented dancer!

After yesterday's Primary Aboriginal Dance Workshop hosted by the NSW Arts Unit, we received this message:

"Just wanted to write celebrating her participation and enthusiasm in the workshop. It can be daunting to attend a large workshop representing the school however she was a pleasure to supervise and teach. The Brolga Dance Academy dance tutors have specifically called out her engagement, listening and participation in the workshop and have asked she be awarded a merit award at school." 🖤💛❤️

Remembering the fallen

Our school captains, P&C representative and principal laid a wreath on behalf of Canterbury PS at today’s ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Bert Crook Memorial.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
