On Wednesday 27th May, our centre came together and participated in National Simultaneous Storytime as part of our centre's ongoing commitment to fostering a love of literacy and celebrating Reconciliation Week 🤝
Following the shared story session of "Luna Roo" by Lesley in the 3-Year-Old Kindy room, the children were delighted by a visit from Pete the Possum. His appearance added excitement and supported the storytelling experience in a fun and engaging way 📚
After the story, all groups came together to sing a selection of songs that reflected both joy and cultural connection, including Twinkle Twinkle, Djinda Djinda Kanangoor, Wanjoo, Inanay and Taba Naba.
This shared experience brought music, movement and meaningful moments to our day, strengthening our sense of community and highlighting the importance of cultural learning during Reconciliation Week.

This week at Goodstart Batman Road we proudly held our very first Children’s Council meeting 🌿✨
Our Kindergarten children stepped into their new leadership roles as “Big Ambassadors,” helping to make decisions, share ideas and create positive change within our centre.
From Safety Officers and Kindness Captains to Sustainability Stewards and Welcome Ambassadors, the children embraced their roles with excitement, bravery and care for others.
We are so proud to be creating meaningful opportunities for children to have a voice, practice leadership and be active participants in our community 💛
We can’t wait to see where their ideas take us next!

Our children have had such a great week celebrating Mother’s Day at Batman Road! 💐
This week was filled with singing songs about mums, sharing conversations about why their mums are so special, reading stories about families and love, and creating beautiful cards and gifts to take home.
The children put so much thought, care and creativity into their Mother’s Day crafts, and they were so excited to prepare special surprises for the important women in their lives. We loved hearing all the sweet things the children had to say about their mums throughout the week!
We hope our Batman Road community enjoys a wonderful Mother’s Day this weekend 💖

Our Batman Road community recently came together in a practical and generous way to support Wungening Aboriginal Corporation and the important work they do with local families.
After learning about the need for essential items, we invited our families to contribute. The response was immediate and substantial with donations including pre-loved clothing, nappies, baby wipes, toiletries and other everyday essentials.
Special acknowledgement goes to Clarissa for initiating this connection and helping make this contribution possible.
Wungening Aboriginal Corporation provides culturally appropriate, confidential, and free services to Aboriginal people across the Perth metropolitan area and we are pleased to have been able to support their efforts.
We appreciate the willingness of our families to get involved and contribute in a meaningful way 💖

One of the joys of starting the day early is seeing the thoughtful experiences our educators set up before children arrive. ☀️
We love that diversity and cultural understanding are woven into everyday learning, not just on special celebration days.
By introducing cultural differences as part of daily practice, we support children to develop awareness, empathy and appreciation for others. It is our role to nurture a generation of global citizens who understand and value what makes each person special. 🌍

Our centre is home to families from many different countries, each with its own history and challenges.
On ANZAC Day, we come together to recognise how fortunate we are to call Australia home.
ANZAC Day reminds us of the men and women who served and sacrificed, allowing us to live in peace and raise our children in safety. Their bravery has shaped the country we live in today.
We also acknowledge the families of those soldiers - the parents, partners and children who carried the burden of their service.
To those who served in the past, those who serve today and the families who stand beside them, we say thank you.
Lest we forget.

Last week, our entire team came together for a staff meeting focused on what matters most, children’s health, safety and quality education.
We reviewed and strengthened our practices around medical management, emergency procedures and child protection, reaffirming our zero-tolerance approach to keeping children safe at all times. We also revisited everyday routines, such as effective handwashing to support children’s wellbeing and help minimize the spread of illness as we approach the winter season.
Our 3 Year Old Kindy educators (Barinder, Jess and Lesley) shared thoughtful reflections on how they have refined their learning environments, creating calmer spaces and supporting children to feel confident and engaged in group experiences.
Sasa led a professional development session focused on recognizing and documenting each child’s milestones, ensuring every child is seen, supported and celebrated. We also took time to celebrate her dedication and creativity as our Assistant Director and Educational Leader, particularly her use of self-written storybooks to enrich reflective teaching and learning for both children and educators!
These ongoing conversations and reflections reflect our commitment to continuous improvement and providing the best possible outcomes for children and families 💛

Last week we carried out our first round of ear screenings at the centre, a service we are proud to offer as part of our commitment to children’s health and early development. 👂🏼
Our educators kept the children calm and reassured as Kenneth carried out the ear screenings, helping each child feel safe and comfortable throughout the process. No child was ever pressured and each experience was guided by the child’s readiness. 👍🏼
A simple strategy often recommended to support healthy ears is ‘breathe, blow, cough’, which helps the ears clear naturally.
Here’s a short child friendly video by Hearing Australia that demonstrates how to encourage nose blowing at home:

Regular ear screenings help identify concerns early, including issues that may affect hearing and learning. Screenings will continue every few months to support families and ensure children are thriving. 💪🏼
