🧒 INVEST IN SCHOOLS! INVEST IN READING! 📚
🌿 Bibliotherapy in the School Library 🪑

Reading for pleasure has proven benefits for health and education outcomes.

Bibliotherapy in the School Library (Virtual) is a reflective, invitational approach to reading that supports wellbeing and connection. It helps you create the conditions where children and young people can experience reading in more open and meaningful ways.

This 7-week facilitated course (4 levels, ~6 hrs/week, 30 CPD hours) explores how stories can be offered in calm, open ways without pressure to perform or interpret. It is designed specifically for school library contexts.

This is the first time this course has been offered, so be at the forefront of the gentle reading wave.

In this session, you’ll hear about:
• The changing role of libraries in the digital age
• How ABii and AI robotics can support learners
• Practical ideas for libraries, schools, and community programs to create more inclusive learning experiences

🎤 PRESENTER: Hugh Kingsley

📚 Mark your diaries! Australian School Library Day 2026 will be celebrated on Wednesday 26 August, during The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week®.

This year's theme, School Libraries: The Best Investment, celebrates the lasting value of well-resourced school libraries and qualified library staff, while calling on school leaders, communities and decision-makers to recognise school libraries as one of the most effective investments they can make in student success.

Investing in school libraries is an investment in:

📚 Literacy
🟰 Equity
😊 Student wellbeing
🤝 Engagement
🎓 Better educational outcomes
💡 Critical thinking
📰 Media literacy
....and much, much more.

Every Australian student deserves equitable access to a well-resourced school library, regardless of where they live or what school they attend. By taking part in Australian School Library Day, you can help celebrate your school library staff and advocate for greater recognition and investment in school libraries.

We've created a suite of free resources, including posters, social media tiles, email signatures, banners and thank you cards, making it easy to recognise and thank your school library staff.

❓Did you know bulk billing means Medicare pays the cost when you see a GP – not you?

💚 There are now over 4,000 Medicare Bulk Billing practices across Australia.
💚 Medicare-eligible patients can access bulk billed care with their Medicare card.
💚 Bulk billing helps make healthcare more affordable, with patients and families expected to save hundreds of dollars each year in out-of-pocket costs.

This is important information to share with library users across Australia, particularly members of the community who may face financial disadvantages and regularly access their local library and its services.
