🍼 Milk bottles after 12 months could be messing with your sleep routine 🤯

Here’s some quick facts:

- Older babies (12mths+) are ready for “food as primary nutrition”, meaning they need to be eating (not drinking) most of their calorie intake 🍎

- Older babies who have a milk bottle right before sleep, or while they are going off to sleep, can want you to replicate this process through the night if/when they wake 🥱

Tips to help your little one begin to separate drinking milk from sleep:

- swap the bottles for a sippy cup; the earlier the better - you can start teaching a baby to use a sippy cup (with cool pre-boiled water only) from 6mths old 💦

- separate milk consumption from the sleep space altogether; instead, give your little one milk in a living area with her seated 🛋

- eventually, offer your little one’s sippy cup milk at the end of evening mealtime, whilst still at the table 🍽

You will notice as milk is separated from bed and bedtime, that sleep should improve. If it does not, then there are likely other tweaks required. 🧐

Have a great week ☀️

Swaddling is one of those tiny newborn rituals that has always brought big comfort in our house. 🏡

Swaddling helps calm the startle reflex, supports longer stretches of sleep, and gives babies that warm, womb‑like security they love. 🥰

When your little one starts showing signs of rolling, it’s time to transition out (usually around 3 months). Try one arm out, then both, and move into a cozy sleep sack when they’re ready. 😴

Small steps, gentle changes, and lots of cuddles along the way. 🫶🏼

So many parents tell me they’re looking for something gentle, natural, and nurturing to support their baby’s sleep. One of my favourite tools is baby massage. It’s simple, soothing, and backed by science.

This here is our youngest, who is now 5. He was (still is!) a little firecracker. Massage really helped him to release tension, feel secure, and settle more easily. It also gave us a beautiful way to connect at the end of a full-on day!

If you’re working on improving sleep, massage is a lovely place to start. Make sure your baby is not hungry or tired when you are planning to massage. Have everything ready to go and check it’s warm before you undress your baby. Use any gentle oil - coconut, grape seed or jojoba oil are all good options.

Chat to your baby and let them know what you are doing. Make lots of eye contact, watch your baby for feedback and enjoy the connection. ♥️
